    Betta Fish Lovers Unite!

So, who on this lovely forum is a Betta fish owner or Betta fish admirer? I thought it would be fun to get us together, especially in case anyone has questions on Betta care, photography, colors, fin styles, etc. I suppose I'll start. :>

At this moment, I have four beautiful Betta boys. I plan on getting quite a few more, but I have to wait until I have the tank space. X'D I will add pictures as soon as I get some nice photos.
For the moment, here is my second gorgeous Betta boy, Sarabi. My other Bettas are Kovu, Scar, and Rafiki. Notice a theme?

I love the Lion King!!! And i am a betta lover too! I have three male bettas: Tye, Moshie and Oliver. Tye is a purple and red veiltail, Moshie is a dark turquoise veiltail, and oliver is a turquoise and red crowntail. Oliver was a friends fish, but she no longer wanted to care for it, so she gave it to me. He has a deformation on his head, making one side HUGE and the other small, and he has a habit of floating around at the top of the tank, but dont worry, he's not dead I also have two females in my community tank, one named Lilo who is purple and black, and then Cherry, who is white with red fins. I used to have a bright aqua one named angel, but she died of old age I also had four other female bettas in the community tank, but a disease spread quickly after i introduced them, and only Lilo and Cherry survived (Angel died before). The four others were from a mass breeding petstore, so they weren't even healthy to begin with, but i thought i could help them. Cherry came with the four making that five actually. Why did i get five female bettas all at once? Well, there was an epic sale for them and i can never have enough fish! i would share pictures, but my computer doesnt like me at the moment, so it wont let me post pics.. lol! <3 >O''

I gave my daughter a turquoise crown tail, to match all the turquoise in her room, named Spock. She's really obsessed with him.

I have owned bettas multiple times, they are my favorite fish! They are so beautiful and elegant I recently lost my last betta, Tye. I hope to get a new one soon!

I adore Bettas <3 I recently had one that stole my heart, his name was Marty. I'm not much of a pet person, but this little fishy was the cutest thing ever. It always swam up to the surface when I was singing, and it circled around when I got home. I was very sad the day he stopped living. Since the day I got him, he didn't look very healthy. It's fins weren't all that spectacular, I'm guessing he had gotten into a fight or something, I don't know, but I saw him and had to bring him to live with me.
Here's a video I made collecting all the (or most) of the pictures I took of Marty. Fresh from the upload

I love betta fish, but I currently have none right now. I had tons that I kept while I was back in Va. One thing I absolutely HATE is when people put their bettas in small half gallon or even 1 gallon tanks without filters and heaters. People think that they can live in these tanks, because the tanks are in the pet stores and everywhere else labeled betta fish tanks. People don't realize that they only selll these tanks , not because it's a good home for your betta fish, but because it makes them money. Same theory with guinea pig cages. Rant over. xD

Great fishies you guys! I just brought home two more female bettas to put in my community tank! Idk why, but i just love the girl bettas, mine have so much personality! One is named Alari, and the other one Ayla. Alari is a pastel light blue with a tinge of pastel pink in the fish rays of her fins. Ayla is shiny white/super light pink with pastel light purple fins, and on the tips of some of the scales in her middle there is dark purple! In the sun when she turns a beautiful luminescent purple shimmers off of her! I love them so much already, and i hope the two other girlies, Lilo and Cherry get along with them as well FISHIES FOREVER!!! <3

I had a lovely cornflower blue and yellow half moon female for a few years that we rescued. She was so energetic and full of personality! I like that you can have multiple females in the same tank if you handle it properly, though I never attempted that.

Also, I heard of people who could mix betta with other fish. Something like you could mix them with fish that don't look like bettas and they're not interested in attacking them. Has anybody tried that?

Sadly this is the best picture I have. I loved him so, so much. He had such a personality I adored. I was hoping to have him for 3 or 4 years like my last huge betta, but the kitten my family owns decided to be cruel and knock his bowl over while I was on a short visit to my boyfriend's. I guess I didn't put him out of reach enough. Didn't even eat him, just left him to die. I cried a lot and still choke back tears to remember him and seeing him dead and dry. He was also beautiful. Iridescent purple, my favorite shade of teal/blue green, with mint green trimming much of his caudal, and a lot of deep royal purple on the rest of his fins. Picture really doesn't do him any justice.

I love you Little Dude and think of you often.... may I try to fill the hole in my heart that you once swam around.

I have always been drawn to bettas, and have had several over my lifetime. At one time I had one with a female guppy in the same tank and they got along fine.

Yes i have! My four females are all in my community fish tank! You see, male betta fish fight, because that aggressive gene was breed into them by fish breeders. For some reason, some people enjoy fish tearing apart eachother's beautiful fins. Female bettas do not have those super long and pretty fins, so breeders did not want to breed the fighting gene into them. So, all in all, male betta fish do not coexist with others, but one can be kept with a community tank. Female bettas can be with eachother, and community tank fish. I still think that females are equally as beautiful as the males, and that's why i have so many To keep female bettas together though, you cant just plop them all in a tank at once, you need to introduce them through clear containers, where they can see eachother, but cannot swim together yet. When they all calm down and stop flaring at eachother, you can then let them swim with eachother in an at least 3 gallon tank. Watch them closely and pull them out if they start nipping at eachothers fins. If they do, put them in containers again for another day. PS, if the fish are slapping eachother with their tails, that is just them saying "hello, who are you" and a sign of submission. You dont have to move them to containers again, only if they nip! Hope i helped anyone who wants to keep FEMALE not male bettas. Remember, this is my method that works with my fish. It may not work for everyone! People call me the Ceasar Milan of the fish world lol! <3
