    A Tail That's a Bit More...Revealing

Now like most of you mers I have an extensive collection of mermaid pictures and I'm always looking for more. one of my favorite artist is David Dalemare. the man is an inspiration, his tails are so unique and unlike almost anything you see in mermaid art. More over, he has a unique take on just where a mermaid's scales should start.
    his start below the butt.

Now this idea has been in my head for a long time but what do you guys and galls think about a tail that starts a little lower below the waist line or one that is shaped to show off a bit more of the body.
I'm not asking to be pervy or anything I've just always been the kind of mer who likes to be a bit racy and push the envelop
what do you guys think would your wear a tail with the butt out or modeled to fit to you butt or one with the front out like this

A tail for the guys has to be made for someone with a well defined and toned torso.

There's nothing at all pervy about wanting to discuss a tail like that, and I hate it when people shy away from the more mature aspects of the mermaid phenomenon. Depicting mermaids and mermen with the tail beginning so low down the legs is to me an obvious attempt to make reference to their status as sensual and alluring creatures with an element of seduction to their meaning.

I may be wrong, but I think Foxmoon offer tails that would be similar to this in some ways to private customers on a discreet basis (if not and I'm corrected, I will amend that statement).

I'm ambivalent to the idea in that I can appreciate the appeal of the depiction of merfolk of either gender in this manner, but I still prefer a tail that goes to the waist. It may seem odd to say, as in the past I have mentioned my appreciation of tails that have knees and heels visible and the idea of the appearance of a costume. But for me the inclusion of a backside and a few inches of leg is simply too much of an oddity, unless of course you mean to suggest that the mermaid has been transformed from a human in some way and been caught between forms.

Thank you, i always feel like i have to say something to defend myself when i discuss things like this and i really don't like doing it lol

i get what you mean but i didn't really mean with the ass being out just for the hell of it i meant more like the scales seemlessing starting a litt below the waist line just to show off a hint of the backside or even lower if that pleases anyone.
but i do understand what your saying.

I've actually written a story for a reader in which the scales on the tail of a mermaid were deliberately designed in that manner, and it was an interesting diversion from the more conventional style of tail.

it would be great for photoshoots- i personally love the idea- but i get the feeling that you may get kicked out of a public pool if you went swimming there, which could be a problem for some people who swim mostly in pools.....

I think it would be safe to assume that this kind of alternative design for a tail would be best kept to a private or professional environment, behind closed doors and away from the eyes of the innocent!

No one is Innocent! lol jk
but yeah i would want someone to take a design like this to a public swimming pool
a pubic swimming pool is filled with more self conscious and prudish people than a Mormon bible school (no offense to any Mormons swimming around here)
i would love to however see it in a photo shoot or maybe even a movie (tastefully done of course)
besides it would simply be showing off a but or a little bit of thigh area. whats honestly so racy about that?

I agree, It would look amazing in a photo shoot or movie! But not a public pool, haha

For movies and such I don't think it would be too bad. You get to see butt in Splash, and even bare breasts if you manage to notice in the split second her hair moves out of the way. And if you were willing to confine it to your own pool or for photoshoots I doubt it would be a big deal. But I'm not about to jump in the local creek in one. XD

I use the below as an example: Sean Lockhart (a porn model) was a merman in the Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild movie, and these show how it can be tastefully done, although I'm sure it would make plenty a girl blush. Personally, I think it's cute and kinda sexy. Lol.

@ merman475: I remember someone on yuku posted that (but it's different from stan the merman isn't it? or is it stan?)

  14. #14
^ Yep that's 'Stan the Merman'. Those are all set photos from when they were filming scenes for the movie.

A more revealing tail is interesting, and I don't think anyone considers it inappropriate to discuss the concept, particularly since you're not the first person to consider the erotic aspects of merfolk. That said, I don't know how you could make such a tail functional in the water.

I've wondered if it might be possible to have a tail that starts around the knees (maybe reaching scales up the thighs) in order to be more revealing while still graceful.

I think you could actually do a lot with color to get the same effect. Have the tail go physically up to the waist, but have it matched in a gradient to the wearer's exact skin tone as you go up from the knees. Then you could paint on body contour for where the legs join the torso. (You know, the way abs get painted on, or Kiera Knightly's cleavage got painted on in Pirates of the Caribbean, since she didn't have the natural curves.)

You certainly see that in Claudefish's tail. He had the tail custom made, by the Mertailor, I believe, and it was toned to match his skin.

The artist John William Waterhouse did one called "the Siren" and the woman on the rock, her tail seems to start just under the knees.
