First draft of my Man O War tail! The "tentacles" are, obviously, not tentacles but a flat fluke that looks like tentacles.
Maybe a little too custom with the weirdo fluke for actual doing (I am ordering a tail from FinFolk), but at least a version of what I want!
Once upon a time I was known as Seavanna. Going by Seatan these days. I always wanted to be the high lord of underwater hell.
I love the colors of the dorsal! It's such a unique design.
Someday, this will be the tail design I'll send to Raven. Minus the fluke because I wasn't a fan of any of the neptune's daughter flukes.

I am making this tail, starting with just cutting out each individual scale. Bleh, that will take a bit.
I love the tentacles!
But I'm not very happy with the fluke, it just doesn't seem to.... fit.
The hardest part I think will be figuring out colors, (I need help, OMG!) I have no ideas what-so-ever right now. All I know is I want the tail to have a feel like fire, but not fire colored, if that makes sense. Just in the fact that, I want the dangerous beauty of fire, the mystery and all that, something really beautiful, gentle and terrifying.
Thinking of coloring that might be totally awesome and work for my tail design, Neptune's Daughter is such an amazing game. :O
The pink for the tentacles was an accidental key hit, but, it works so well! My goodness that was such a shock! I know I can't have to much of the bright green, pale skin, I'll die, or at least look dead in that color, but the black fixes it. I'm thinking I might just keep these colors.
For the second one, I found a more accurate hairstyle, I didn't want to look through all of them. :P
White, black and red, obviously those tentacles need to be a totally different color to fit. It just works that way. This one looks a lot more, I'm not sure, royal? I think I might like the first one better.
I wanted to try something more natural looking, like a lionfish, I'm not sure I like the colors.

Nah, I'm only designing because I can't wait to make one, but don't have the materials. I suppose as long as you have a rough idea you should be fine. I think

I've just changed the design. this is (basically) for my future silicone tail ^_^ no extra fins, at least for now...

This came to me when I was talking with Merman Anthony earlier today on the Mernetwork.
'Decided to make a base to share with other mers.
(Feel free to use this base if you like. Color on it, scribble on fins. Change the fluke shape if you want, whatever.)

I (mostly!) finished the design of my dream tail today!
I used the Merbella Studios template for the underside and back views, and used Koral's template for the side view with the fluke. Someday I'm going to get a silicone tail with this pattern, but I might try seeing if I can get it as an airbrushed neoprene tail first. What do you guys think?

I have my dream tail design drawn out, but it's not colored, and I'd love to draw it on photoshop with a Merbellas base, but I don't have photoshop, and I'd almost certainly jack it up anyway :/ It's too bad, I'd really like to post it here
I use a simple crack of PaintTool SAI for my designs. If you wanted, I could email you a copy to tinker around with? It's no photoshop, but it's really easy to get the hang of and I love it!
