Thread: Facebook selling your pics?

    Exclamation Facebook selling your pics?

Okay I'm not sure where to post this so I figured I'd put it here. I just heard that facebook and instagram are claiming all rights to any photo's uploaded by the app and can sell them to whomever they please. I guess there was a girl on the news or something that didn't know facebook sold her pics and information to a cheating site, and a dating site. Just thought I'd post this in case some of you didn't know about it so you can protect yourselves.

FB has had this policy since nearly the beginning, they are allowed to use your images in specific ways royalty free. This doesn't mean they go and give your images away, or sell them. It's the same TOS you agree to when you sign up for a website like deviantART (which is art!), many photo sites, and basically all social networking. It means FB can reference your public work without your permission essentially. It's been de-bunked quite a few times. I'd go on and on but there are excellent articles that break it down perfectly point by point that show it all that you can google.

I think they claim that they aren't going to sell the photos. There have been similar scares the the past with Twitter I think.

By the way, xkcd had a comic making a joke about this. While I sympathize with people who like Facebook but are concerned about privacy, I have to say the comic does have a point.

Okay, well if the information I posted is wrong I'm sorry . I don't use facebook or any other social neworking sites, except this one . It was all with good intention, not meant as a scare. So if I'm wrong about all of this then please feel free to take this thread down, (not that you need my permission, b/c you don't).

I was just about to ask if this only applies to Instagram users? Or are my pictures that I put on facebook able to be sold with out my knowing or compensation for them?
