    Zora

Hello everyone. New person here. Not sure if I've put this post in the right forum...
While I do love mermaids, my current costume that I'm wanting to make isn't actually a mermaid. It's a Zora from the Legend of Zelda games.

the last picture is my concept art. Forgive my poor quality camera :/
I figure I'll use a zentai suit with a face hole as a base, and paint/add on top of that. The feet will either be cut-down store bought fins, or homemade fins from cheap rubber mats. Can't decide if I should put that under or over the fabric...
Any ideas on a translucent, shimmery fabric I could use for the fins that would still be sturdy?
While it is extremely unlikely I'll every get to actually swim in this thing, I would like to be able to if the opportunity ever arises.
So, what can I use to fill out the head-tail that wouldn't mind getting wet? And I would welcome any tips, advice, critiques, etc.

    Badass!
I love Zoras! If you could pull this off it'd be the coolest~

Have you seen HylianJean's zora cosplays? She uses zentai suits as well

Oh my god. Haha I actually contemplated using Zora for my mermaid name. Lol! how weird, just the other day I saw a picture of Princess Ruto the other day and thought, "Once I get in shape, I totally want to make that costume..." Like you could use permawet to look all slimy. Haha
Do you want this anemone to sting you?
    ......yes!

Wow, I didn't know what a zentai suit was, so I googled it and this popped up:

    xD
Yea they have the mermaid zentai's now.
I don't think they have a monofin in em, but they don't look half bad.
Well, I wouldn't like my mermaid tail to be all over me like that xD

Well I guess if you're going for the creepier version it would work...just add the little head fin things...cut holes for your eyes/mouth...paint those parts the same color as the material, stick it to your face and try to make it blend.

I really have no idea what I'm saying. Lol

Anyway, I'm excited to see your costume!

Wow, so many responses! What is this perma wet stuff? That sounds intriguing. A wet look would be awesome. And yes, I have seen Hylian Jean over on cosplay.com. I hope it can get my fins to look as good as the ones on her Ruto cosplay.

Permawet is the stuff that Jesse uses on his tails.

So you get this kind of look:

That perma-wet looks awesome! It would really boost the realism from fabric to a more slippery fish-skin look.
    Zoras on a beach, lol.

    Something like this, then?

In my opinion, it's a nice costume of a Zora with a zentai suit. From the Ocarine of Time.

Twilight Princess has seriously distracted me from my tailmaking atm.... xD And I'm at the water temple now....so.....yeah. LOL

This thread is a bit old....but I didn't know if I should start a new one or not. I've also started thinking of a Zora costume. I was actually thinking about using a neoprene wetsuit as a base. I would want mine totally swimmable. XD How well does silicone stick to neoprene? I was thinking (Twilight Princess version) of using silicone for the fins, gills, anf extra barnacle looking things on their arms. And something for their head....something not so heavy, but still waterproof.

Lol, yeah, don't get me started on water temples.... I always end up looking up online guides to find my way out. As you can probably tell by my lack of updates to this thread, I never did end up making my zora costume . For some reason, however, I find myself looking for Zelda song remixes as background music whenever I start work on my tail.... I guess zoras are what got me into mermaids in the first place, lol. As for silicone over neoprene, I would guess it would be similar construction to silicone over neoprene tails-- either dragonskin is cast in molds and glued onto the neoprene, or tin cure silicone (caulking) is just spread on and shaped while wet.
