Any advice on bleaching dark brown hair to prep it for colorful dying? I used to bleach/dye/kill my hair a million years ago...okay, the 1980s...and I'd like to do it again without the 'killing my hair' bit.

    Thanks!

What I would suggest is conditioning it right after, and doing Hot oil treatments in between bleaching...It will give your hair the nutrients you burned out...Theres youtube videos on how to do it, you can make it out of stuff people usually have at home, it works like a dream! you can also just dye it right after you bleach it!

I love all the rainbow colored hair! PearlieMae, the bleaching/dyeing will make your hair more prone to breakage even after it's "recovered." If you keep up with oiling your hair regularly and not just right after, you can keep it healthy. I grew my bleached/dyed/dyed again ends out from my roots to my butt with minimal trims this way, and they look healthy and thick.

Yeah, I've murdered my hair way too many times and have since learned my lesson there.

My hair goes to the backs of my knees now, and is in great shape. I've 'harvested' a ponytail's-worth of hair from my hairbrush and am using it to create my own colored extensions.

I just wanted to know the best way to remove the natural color to prep it for dying.

That's a great idea! Also, holy carp, knee-length hair? Wow- I didn't realize. That's impressive. Classic length is all I can handle.

Search up 'Olaplex' ... amazing product that protects hair while bleaching, I wouldn't bleach without it now that I know about it. It's available in salon and I think you can get it for home use too

I'm going blond again so I'll post a photo of that.
I'm a very dark blond but my hair has either been red or almost black for the most part of my life.

If you watch Hetalia you'll know who is my favourite character when I post the photo. Plus I really really like his hair style.

I recommend Olaplex, too! That stuff is amazing! I bleached my hair twice in a month and it's still soft and healthy.

    Very pretty!

Your hair is very similar to my mother's though neither me or my sister inherited that kind of curl. Mom says it is difficult to cut right, so I am happy you got one that makes you happy

    Thanks!

Your mother is SO right about that. So, I'm really happy about this.

He also recommended a few products for pre-chlorine exposure. I'll post pics tomorrow of those.

This seems to be the best photo I have of my hair but it's about half way down my back with bangs and I dye it brown. I'm naturally blonde though. 😊
