new shark repellent wetsuits from Australia

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...k-attacks.html

One uses a dazzle camouflage pattern, the other uses horizontal stripes so the person looks like a poisonous animal

So... you get a wetsuit and those two guys flanking you to scare away the sharks, right? >

I love this. And they look cool, which doesn't hurt.

I found a video on their FB page, really great idea.

    Thanks!
Whether it's really shark-repellent though remains to be seen.
As someone commented on the wetsuit page:
"You guys try it out in the ocean, I wait in the boat"

The problem with the striped sea krait wetsuit is that it would only work where those snakes are indigenous. If you swam in shark-infested waters in South America (they only live in the Indian and West Pacific oceans), then you'd be out of luck.

    It's a good site, yea.
However, I wouldn't be willing to shell out that much money and/or trust my life with one of those suits until they've made some tests whether or not they work at all.
Just saying "we made this with fantastic computer hightech" doesn't mean it's really efficient.

How about they dress a ball of meat (or fish) in one, throw it in a tank with sharks, and see whether the sharks tear it apart or not.

This site describes how the concept and the suits themselves were tested

Yea. I saw what they labelled as "sensational footage".

While impressive, it's still a single clip about 3 seconds long, showing a shark approaching the bait, and then turning around suddenly and swimming off.

Whether it really was the suit that turned him away, we cannot know.
It might have been something else (a loud noise, something approaching from the sides we can't see).

Until this technology and its effects are better known, I have to take their word alone for that it works.
