    OMG Re: Member map

I was just looking over the member map, and my mind is blown to see that the majority of the mermaids here seem to be from landlocked or cold places-and yet there are only 6 of us in Australia! Makes me think that the closer you live to the ocean, the more you take it for granted! Everyone come to MY place, lol. We'll have a ball!

Yep! I'm in England and live miles from the sea I would love to buy a monofin and a tail but apart from renting the local swimming pool out, which is a bit pricy! I'd have no where to use them If I could I would totally be on my way to you now!! LOL

True! lol I do live in a very nice little town, with lots of nature around me. There is a river at the bottom of my street but wouldn't recommend swimming in it

I was away from San Diego in PORTLAND for three years. Worse three years of my life, no sea and a polluted river attached to a sewage treatment plant. I have a crazy good sense of smell, so had I wanted to to to anywhere near that end of the river, I'd be out of luck. But I didn't... I kept wanting it to feel like the sea, and it didn't.

Never again. I will never leave the coast again.

I'm one (if not the only one) of the lucky mers here in Belgium who found a pool where I can swim with my tail although I have to keep my hair together when swimming

We have so many beaches in our town that they always look empty. The water is a beautiful temperature and it's almost always sunny.
But the water is also full of things that might accidentally kill you too!
We're even having problems with crocodiles. We've had a lot of wet, cyclonic summers and they keep getting washed into the main beaches.A few years ago Mackay went under in a flood and a massive croc got stuck in the gooseponds-in the centre of town! They were trying to catch it for a year, and it managed to breed. Add sharks and box jellyfish and there aren't too many places I feel safe swimming. Not that it stops me-but I'm paranoid the whole time.
It's dead in the middle of winter right now-too cold to swim for those up us accustomed to the warmth, but it's probably not cold for a lot of you. I'm getting around in jeans and a shirt and sandals.

I'm down in South Australia and at the moment its FREEZING. Like, 11 degrees C freezing. Which is cold for me. haha!! I'd love to live in QLD!! Even with all the nasties in the water! The worst we have is great white sharks...which is pretty bad, but thats only one thing to be afraid of, not dozens! XD

'The worst we have is great white sharks' ha ha that's kind of the worst ever!
It's been 11 here a few times in the past 2 months...at 4 am. Bloody cold. But the days are at least 20!

I'm in Victoria. Since it's Winter, it gets so cold in my room that my breath actually starts to mist!!! So definitely no swimming until Spring and Summer! Ugh. I miss it. And I really want a tail. Good to see another Aussie mermaid though. There aren't many of us here, sadly. God I wish it was warmer right now. Welcome, by the way!

Thanks! I love Victoria. You guys have beautiful architecture. Love romantic buildings.
A lot of ours are new, or on stilts. Looks like a Dali painting sometimes, lol

There's something lovely about the look of old Queenslanders, though. The stilts are great for floods, too xD

I'm just down the coast from Brisbane, and I go swimming at least twice a week (Indoor heated pools only mind you, there' a lovely one about 30 minutes from where I live, and they're cool with letting me use my fins, I have yet to ask them about a tail however.)

  19. #19
Yes, at least there are indoor pools here in SA too. The pools themselves are heated- but the air INSIDE the buildings aren't! haha! So if I go for a swim, I have to wrap myself in towels to avoid hypothermia and run to the hot showers. haha! Cant WAIT for summer- at least we are almost through winter, the days are getting longer again! And I just moved to 2 minutes from the beach!

I just can't swim in this weather. Well, I'm flat out with my book anyway but I'm not a hard core enough surfer yet to brave it. I get anxious about that 30 seconds between getting out of the shower and getting into my Pj's!
