I like the idea, but if it's a pass-on story kinda style, then all the 'players' must have a char sheet so that the other writer knows their traits and other things so that we don't get mix ups in the characters. That's what we did in the the Star Wars writing group I had joined long ago

Good thinking, Azurin. Could you come up with a basic sheet for us to each fill out for a character?
Also, Does anymer else have setting ideas?
If not, then I'll write up two or three more ideas and post them. I just wanted to see what you all could come up with.

I have a character sheet I could offer! It's not mine- all credits go to the Forgotten Realms RP site, where I used to RP frequently. It's pretty extensive, but I'm having trouble accessing it now- so when I do get it, I'll post it up here.

I think character skeletons/sheets would definitely help.

it was a little digging, but I found it Just remember, it's build for general rp, so maybe some things need to be added or left out, but I think it pretty much covers what we would need.

    Sounds like fun.

For the past fifteen years I have run undersea roleplaying games online, using the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. My first game, "Beneath the Pinnacles of Azor'alq", was a play-by-post game. I started my current game, "Heirs of Turucambi" in 2007. It's a chat-based game which uses the 3.5e rules. I keep recaps of game logs over at Squidieval .

I run my game "loosey goosey", role-play heavy and combat light, with an emphasis on story over statistics. I have considered starting a new game using the Pathfinder ruleset in the Cerulean Seas setting, utilizing the roll20 virtual tabletop in lieu of a chat room.

If you are looking for a simplistic common ruleset, you might consider the d20 "System Reference Document" created for third party producers of materials for 3.5e. LINK

That being said, why not consider a story that unites both the mammalian mermaids, such as those seen in "Mermaids: The Body Found", with the traditional merfolk. There's room for everyone in a story.

    Sorry I've been MIA!
Sick, then sick and busy at once.
    Back, now though.
I haven't actually had a chance to write any setting descriptions.
I do have to ideas, though.
One is, steampunk-esque, Technology and Magic underwater, while the poor humans struggle with Medieval social structures on land. They still surface, now and again, out of pity, and to see the bright sun, moon and stars.
The other is Futuristic Tech and Magic for the mers, during WWII or later on land. Huge distrust of humankind, since they're always dumping crud, and blowing things up. They used to visit Man quite often, but haven't been seen in hundreds(maybe thousands) of years.

I've been having a serious lack of inspiration recently :\
I'd like to suggest a modern-day timeframe, for the simple reason that it's a lot easier to use real-life experience and keep things real-ish (i.e. human society is the same as it is now) rather than everyone having to learn the lore of a particular story.
That being said, if we're mainly focussing on the merpeople's point of view, human culture would seem strange and unreal anyway, so any era could work, really.

Hey guys! I'm so sorry I've been MIA, I've just had a lot happen at once. We're trying to get ready to move, and I have events this month, it's been really nutty!

Good Points. I like this suggestion as well. So we have, uhhh, three so far? Or is it four? I gotta go back and look.
