    Seaweed HELP!!!

OK, long story short, but I went to the beach today and came back home with a HUGE amount of seaweed. I'm drying it out and plan to use it in crafts for my Etsy shop...

The only thing is I don't know what to make with seaweed!!! Any creative and unique ideas out there?

I have a mixture of wing kelp, brown or red or green seaweed, dead man's bootlaces, and possibly even some peacock's tail.

Any ideas would be greatly helpful!!!

Earrings and necklaces? Weave the smaller/thinner stuff into bigger strands? Keychains? Get some resin and make pendants? Uh.... ya... I'm out of ideas. Haha

    Make nori?
In my experience, seaweed gets really stinky when dry, unless maybe you have a specific method for drying it. But I would also imagine it would get rather crispy. But I wonder if you could use a flower press to press smaller pieces of it...then maybe you could laminate it to things like picture/mirror frames, wooden box lids, or something like that?

    thanks for the ideas!!!

Theobromne, I do have a special way for pressing and saving seaweed- it involves a warm over, a few heavy books, wax paper, and plently of thumb wittling, lol

The press is an interesting idea- I dont own one, but I shall keep my eye out for one in the near future!!!

something that I'm planning on making is a seaweed inspired top (think of the one that the Mertailor offers, only with seashells and pearls added, with sequins, starfishies, and sand dollars!!!)

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I haven't seen a Mertailor seaweed top I don't think, though I've seen ones by Merbella Studios and Finfolk productions. I don't think real seaweed would hold up well in the water...unless you also have some way of varnishing it and making it watertight or something. Sounds really interesting though! I like seeing alternative top ideas.

I have PLENTY of seaweed (enough to last should the apocalypse hit, LOL) so the top will be trial and error. Do you have any idea of a waterproof seal I can try out?

I like the idea of making resin jewelry with it. That would seal it nicely and preserve it. It would look really pretty too.

Earings sound pretty risky. A lot of people are allergic to seaweed just don't know it. I think you should go for something interesting though!
