    Mermaid/Pirate corset!

I have my 21st Birthday party coming up and the theme is pirates and mermaids. I'm a bit stuck.
I'm planning on going as a 'pirate mermaid' and I have the bottom half sorted however I'm a bit unsure of the top. I was planning on getting and customising a corset to wear over a sheer blouse that I own and make some mermaidy accessories to go with it.

I have two options on the top, I've put pictures below but I am really awful at drawing so please excuse that....

They both have shells and netting on, I'm just not sure whether to go for the strapless corset or the bustier with the straps.

    What do you guys think?

Also, do you have any other possible ideas that might go well with a pirate mermaid outfit?

    Thank you!

But I cant imagine how you would do that with a mermaid.
PS I have seen mermaids have a pirate handler. But I never saw them together yet so this will be interesting Caribbean Pearl uses a wench act but she dresses fully mer.

My personal preference is the bustier, but both are lovely! If you have the opportunity to try them both on, then I would do that, and see which one feels more comfortable. Also, there have been a couple of threads mentioning wearing a bustier with a tail to swim in, which might be an option for after the party! (I hate making something to wear just once!)

no need to change theme just because you cover your tummy.

I would love something like that, but I think I will end up with more of a tankini type thing, or at least a bra/bikini top with some camoflaging hangy-downs, to help minimize attention on my fat tummy!

What are you doing for the bottom, Ameliarose? And congrats on 21!

@Golden Pearl - Yeah it'll kind of be like that but more mer themed! I hope anyway, and that bustier is absolutely stunning! I wish I had the skills to make something like that

@Echinacea - Yeah I was thinking the bustier too as it would be easier to swim in that the other! I'll have to see which i can afford I think! On the bottom I'm wearing a pair of silk, patterned (brown) harem pants with some fake suede thigh high boots that I own (I have to see if this is gonna actually look alright) and then i'm gonna have a tricorn hat with a sea themed brooch on it and a turtle necklace that i own that's the plan anyway!

You need a mermaid/pirate-y kind of sash or belt! Possibly with a big seashell buckle... (How can you buckle a good swash without a belt?! )

I had considered something like a fairly wide leather belt, and see if you could glue a lion's paw or some other nice, big shell onto the buckle, and still be able to buckle it.

The bustier looks easier and better to craft with, in my opinion.
