Honestly, when I spoke with one of the organizers, Scott, (and I have all the messages should anyone need to see) he made it pretty clear he "knew what was best" for the community, and certainly wasn't interested in what the mermaids had to say. Several others have relayed to me that they had the exact same experience.
I want to make it clear, I don't expect a perfect convention, I don't expect it to be huge either. But I do expect it to improve. I expect the organizers to be more than respectful to the community, and to actually listen to them. They may not be able to reach all our expectations but they should at least consider what the community wants, since the community is paying for it, and theyd make more of a profit if they did.
I am thinking we should after everyone has time to reflect, make a new thread for all our suggestions with actual tangible ways they can be carried out, for the next one.
I had a lot of people asking me to go, and I did submit a proposal for doing a workshop on running birthday parties and working with kids, but Scott didn't think people would be interested in that. Maybe another year. I just can't justify spending all that money for something still so unorganized. I'd much rather visit Florida on my own schedule and see my own friends at a meetup or something.
