    Idea: Virtual Mer-Meet (Secondlife)

    Hello all! *wave*

It was mentioned mers from this site might also have a mer-avatar in SL.

Knowing how difficult it can be to bring even the people of one country together for a mer-meet, here's the idea!

We set a time/date (maybe through a poll, to determine which day most of us would have time),
and then meet in a nice, watery SL destination we previously select.

Come as any avatar you wish/can (there are some cheap commercial mermaid avas available),
it would of course be best if you made your avatar resemble you as much as you can, and your outfit looking like a tail you really have, to make this virtual meeting as close to a real one as possible!

Feel free to make your dream tail to go with it, or come as a fairy if you prefer, in SL, everything's possible, and you can fly

I've not been on SL for a very long time, but I'm willing to help out people who would like to make their real tail for their avatar and don't know exactly how.

A gathering in SL would also enable people to meet who otherwise never would because of distance.
We could try to make a world-wide meet as well!
And this is the best purpose of SL btw, a platform to meet people from around the world in real time, while looking like themselves!

    What do you think?

I'll meet those who are able at 1am GMT (9pm Eastern) at the Safewater Foundation Headquarters. In SL, I am Aeolius Graves (SL assigns a last name).

    Your ava looks gorgeous.

Mine are many years old, might have to touch them up a little:

Made that outfit myself, a long time ago.

Anyway, sadly my name is different on SL, but if I can show up, I'm going to look like this:

Hey, it DOES look like you!

I'll keep an eye out for you guys.
I know some amazing underwater spots, secluded, secret, with sunken wrecks and stuff.

If the idea catches on, maybe we can get a bigger number of forum mers together!

If you go to the SWF headquarters, there is a "free and cheap tails list" in the toolkit on the welcome desk. There is a notecard in there that should have fairly updated landmarks to places with mer-tails

    There is just one thing I'd really like to change in SL;
replacing the "flying through air"-sound with water bubbles/underwater swimming sound when you are in water.

Looks like I'll have to re-learn the ropes, so I don't look too outdated beside all the new stuff wearers

Meh, each time I go back to SL, I have to remake my outfits...so annoying lol.

Second Life is free! Granted, you can spend a boatload of money on props, avatars, and the like but there's plenty of free stuff as well.

yea, it's free, and most of the freebie stuff you can get nowadays looks better than the most expensive things years ago lol.

If you've never been in SL though, keep in mind there are voracious dragons, dinosaurs, evil snakespirits, and demons of all sort lurking everywhere

    Would be great!

From the size of those new underwater regions alone you can tell mermaiding is getting popular.
I liked the mansions there too, although not as much as my old mercastle, I'm just the kind of person that prefers fairy looking stuff

So it's kinda like a Sims for mermaids?
That awkward moment when someone says mermaids aren't real... And I'm standing right next to them...

Mermaid Myra as that is my business persona

    It's similar.
SL is a platform where you can make everything yourself (clothes, appearances, furniture, houses, fantasy stuff, vehicles, anything really) exactly the way you want it to look.
The only limit is the user's ability to use the in-world building and editing tools.

Apart from that, it's a world which is shaped by its residents.
    Some come only to party or go to clubs and meet people; others buy themselves their dream villa on a tropical island they cannot afford in reality;
others roleplay, change into a different entity, or explore the ever changing regions.

I know many people never get into SL, because they somehow think it's an MMO, and since it isn't, they get bored and leave.
You won't get quests or goals to achieve besides those you set for yourself.

And there are sims- regions- for about everything.
The mermaid related ones are more and bigger than what I expected and remember.
