    saran wrap?

*I am not sure if this the right thread. I am guessing.*

Hi there! So I have been accepted for my first gig (a history fest) and am going as a native American mermaid. I am from up north so it will be cold. So I ordered this dress as me top: http://www.walmart.com/ip/American-I...stume/26976890 my plan is to wear it with my tail over it. I am concerned it will create bumps under the tail. I was wondering if anyone has used saran wrap around there legs to give it a solid appearance? I think I would be able to smooth out the dress with the plastic wrap. If you have sed it, did it look nice? how did you do it? And could you tell that you had it on? FYI I have a fabric tail.

A couple of possibilities... wear the dress outside of your tail, and just tell people that mermaids get cold, too, and your native american friends made you this dress to help you stay warm. Or if you don't mind cutting the dress, shorten it to about shirt length or even midriff length, so it tucks in better, or wear it over the tail. Possibly see if you can find a fleece blanket or piece of fleece fabric in a native american style print to wrap around your top if it gets really cold.

You will not be able to compress the dress with saran wrap to be unnoticeable; you will have bulges. I second what Echi said above!

I agree...also, if you can get a fake fur rug that looks like a hide, maybe toss that around you!

    This one is $9.99 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30229077/

The real sheepskin is about $30.

Or use the fake fur rug to sit on! The ground gets chilly up north, too! (As I well know, being a New Englander! )

I like the fabrics they have at this site http://www.nativefleece.com/fabric-choices/, they have a lap throw for $10.00 or a bigger throw for $17.95.

Bummer. Maybe if I cut the fringe off the bottom? I was thinking about just cutting it so its shorter.

Tucking the top into a fabric tail is going to show unless the fabric is neoprene.

I would cut it shorter, but just leave it untucked.

I support Echinacea`s suggestion. A shorter dress for your native themed mermaid outfit. How about cutting lower fringes, keep lower blue pearl edge so it makes a finition like collar. Keep cut fringes and make a nice tail ankle ornament with it! Thanks!

I would suggest cutting the bottom "belt" along with the fringe off. Put it to the side and then cut the top a little higher. Then, take the fringed belt you saved and re-sew it onto the higher part where you just cut it. You don't even have to cut off a lot, just a little bit to show off your tail!

I am living with my sister right now and she knows how to sew, it's supposed to come today, so maybe I will have her help me. Tahnk you everyone for your answers it was a lot of help!

Just a note, if there are any real native's there, they could take the dress as offensive.... I know some that would. Personally, I wouldn't but....
