As far as us looking like "Disney" creations, I think that girl missed the point completely. If you're trying to market yourself as a mermaid or merman for kids' parties, dive bars, special events, ocean conservation, etc., it's human nature to be attracted to beauty and what we grew up with visualizing as this kind of being. Who wants to look at some knarly swamp thing thrashing around at a pool party? Jeesh...

My reply: "I agree with you in that if mermaids existed in the depths of the ocean, they likely wouldn't be pretty and be like the mockumentary designers dreamed up. But why insult people who do this for fun and/or as part of the entertainment industry? Do you go on cosplayer videos to insult them for being "fake and nothing more"? Do you go on kids entertainers videos and insult them for being "disneyfied hollywood crap"? Mermaiding is a mix of both of those. Why come on my channel, to watch my video, just do you can insult it? Do you really have nothing better to with your time do than tear people down? That's pretty pathetic. I've been mermaiding for over a decade. Your know-it-all condescending tone is nothing new to me, honey. Haters gonna hate, trolls gonna troll. You may think I'm "nothing more" than a "fake mermaid", but I have been told by thousands of people how I have brought them joy and inspired them by doing what I do.
