My my mother is a first grade teacher. She has a little 7 year old girl that is the sweetest most deserving young lady ever! A little backstory about this little girl.
She is 7 years old. She had a 4 year old brother and a little 1 and half year old sister. Her brother was diagnosed with a genetic disorder/disease that has no cure and no amount of medicine can cure it (the name escapes me). Her brother died right before starting first grade in my mother's class. Then they found out that her little year and half year old sister was diagnosed with it. And unfortunately, my mother's first grader is showing signs of it as well and has to be tested. Now let me restate...I can't remember the disease/disorders name...but the ultimate end result...is death. Some can live until teens and some die young. But that is what this little girl is dealing with.
My mother showed her students a video of myself and mermaid Nerine swimming in Blue Springs, Alabama. She told them that she had a very special daughter. After seeing the video this little girl sat smiling for a whole hour. Finally, she told my mom that she has always DREAMED about being a mermaid and wish that she had been born with a tail rather then being born to die.
My mom came up with an idea. She wanted me to get a hold of my friend who is a professional photographer and spend the day getting professional pictures with the little girl and even making her a tail so she could become a mermaid.
I have decided to go above and beyond what my mother asked of me.
Very soon...this little girl is going to get an envelope from my mother (after the holiday break). The envelope will contain a letter from Santa to my mother explaining how he knows she has been a good girl and how she loves mermaids and that he thought he could give her the gift of meeting not only one...but many. And also there will be letters from these mermaids to Santa on how they would love to meet a human child because they have never met one before.
I have pulled together the mermaids of the brethren court and asked the ones closest to me (that wouldn't have to drive far) to help out. I have at least 3 mermaids now. We are going to get a tail made for her and give her gifts mermaids would give. One girl is going to make a seaweed bracelet, I can make her a shell necklace/tiara, and i dont know what else everyone is making. Plus, she will have her picture taken with us.
I wanted to tell everyone of this because I have decided that we are going to do this every year...Each year we are going to find a deserving child that would like to meet/become a mermaid and make that dream come true. (think make-a-wish but not fully).
My only thing is that I haven't thought of a name for it....
