Hey MerMaisy, there are some companies that make nude suits. Here's one of them

Also, Roxy wetsuits makes a ton of pretty colorful wetsuits for good prices. I own the Synchro in turquoise/electric yellow/navy in a 4/3 that cost me about $150. I can wear it in water from 65 degrees F to 85 degrees F.

Other Synchro colors (just a few--they come out with new, bright colors every year for this style):

As for the "physics of black," you have to remember that while keeping you warm is ONE use of a wetsuit, it is not always primary. I don't NEED a long sleeve wetsuit in the Caribbean, but I wear one to protect from sun and getting stung by fire coral. It also makes kneeling in sand beds a lot more pleasant. So I really see no reason for black suits. The fact is that diving was, until recently, a male dominated sport, like surfing used to be. Surfing has caught up with the times because its target audience is young and hip and makes rocking looks for chicks. Diving is still dominated by older men in marketing's mind when it comes to a "target audience" because THEY are older men and don't realize that what was once only done by women if their husbands did it is now about 50/50 when you look at a Dive Shop's Divemaster classes. There are no longer more males than females in the younger community. But the diving world's marketing team hasn't caught onto that yet!!! Hopefully they will wake up, like surfing did. Until then, the women's surf companies are still my go-to for diver's gear. 4 mm is as thick as I will ever need, as if it's colder than that I'm wearing a damn dry suit! Cold water is not mah friend!

Colored neoprene may be a little more expensive to use, but I think mainly it comes down to dive shops being conservative with their designs. But I have seen how many young people, still in college, are getting their Divemaster certifications and going off to work in the dive community--thousands and thousands of them! And half of them are girls. So at some point they will Get A Clue and realize that when it comes to women there is Big Money in cool looking gear!

I love wetsuits. I get so freaking cold in water, especially when diving. Mermaiding I'm usually okay as long as I am active, but any time the water is a tiny bit chilly and I'm doing anything other than mermaiding, I wear a wetsuit of some kind. Who needs bathing suits?

It's even needed (or at least beneficial) if you do so with an open-cell wetsuit.

Nylon-coated wetsuit, I prefer having a bathing suit beneath.

I've been out diving with a female Freediver who was commando underneath her open-cell, non nylon coated apnea suit and she had a massive tear! :o

The fact that it was cold water (and 2mi offshore) was insult to injury.

    HA! HA!

Another NO NO is to wear bikinis under wetsuits. They do come off at the worst possible moment. (in the busy parking lot full of tourists with cameras)

And Guys, Speedo's are your friends!

Otter Bay Wetsuits and Drysuits have a range of colours available for their custom suits: (http://otterbaysuits.com/colors.cfm). Even better are their mermaid suits: http://otterbaysuits.com/Mermaidhome.htm

Can you move around well in a wetsuit? After seeing all there cool colors, I wanted to get one for swim club since we use the outdoor pool at, like, 6 AM. Thanks in advance!

Yes. I use mine during winter at my indoors pool.

Why the heck are all wetsuits black?!

Freedivers seem to move around (and up and down!) just fine.

Don't use a surf suit or shorty though if you want decent hydrodynamics.

OK, so this is beyond nerdy (venturing into Otaku territory)

The Fumitsu company in Japan is making wetsuits that are EVA Plugsuits from the Evangelion anime series

I apologize that it's in Japanese. They don't seem to have an English option.
