Thread: Mermaid Music

  1. #101
Music is a major influence on my writing. Also, like some (many, most) authors, I fantasize about seeing my book made into a movie. So here, if you like is the sound track to The Accidental Mermaid.

Here Hannah discovers the joy ofswimming as a mermaid and meets Skye

Here Hannah discovers the power of the Siren Song

    The love theme

The mermaids ran out of other things to sing

    Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
    And you sang
    Sail to me
    Sail to me
    Let me enfold you
    Here I am
    Here I am
    Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
    Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you:
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you

One of my favorite games is Primal. It's about a woman named Jen who falls into a coma after being attacked by the demon who kidnapped her boyfriend. While in the coma her spirit is able to travel to different demon worlds to try and save him, but to survive there she has to transform into a half demon form. One of the realms, Aquis, is underwater, so Jen becomes half Undine. She doesn't grow a tail, but she gets some interesting fins and gills. Anyway, the entire game soundtrack is beautiful, but here are a few of the songs from Aquis.

    World of Water

    The Turbulent Depths

Now a song from a better known game. This is the theme from Zora's Domain and Zora Hall in both The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Love the Zora theme! I used to set the game up just to sit in the zora'a domain so I had background music for chores or schoolwork. I even downloaded it onto my phone to use as my alarm.

A few of my favourites have been mentioned already, but I would like to add:

    Seven Widows Weep by Sirenia

    Siren by Theatre of Tragedy
(also check out their song Lorelei, another mermaid-related one)

    Lemuria by Therion

I probably have a zillion more but those are the ones I can think of for now

Me too! Sirenia are one of my favourite bands (in the top 5 at least). I went and saw them live a few weeks ago and got to meet them and everything, it was one of the best shows I have ever been to ^_^

La Mer is the original 1943 song written by a French man named Trenet. You'll recognize immediately the similiarity to the more popular 'Beyond the Sea' which was based on La Mer, and with new lyrics.

You're clothed in respect. You smell of sweet caress. Dip and swell
Beyond the power of fists, your ocean heart healing uneasy minds
And I wanna dive in with you, clinging to the rock, I'm waiting...

I have a mermaid playlist haha
I have a lot of Titanic songs. The Ocean by U2, A Drop in the Ocean by Ron Pope, Into The Ocean by Blue October, Mermaids by Hans Zimmer, Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine and I have a lot of songs that just remind me about mermaids but aren't ocean related. Some of them are: Beside You by Phildel, Skyfall by Adele, Mad World by Michael Andrews

So do I. I think a lot of us do, which is one reason I love this place. No one else would get that. lol Except perhaps, our loved ones.

I keep mine in two lists- I label them Siren Songs and Vintage Siren Songs, for songs recorded prior to 1970. They're my most played lists, for sure. I also have Howl for werewolf songs, Blood suckers for vampire music. And some of those fit into mermaid music, too.

Like this. Because of how I see mermaids, my mersona, and the effect of the moon, this to me speaks both to werewolf lore and mermaids. It was clearly written about werewolves, but I hear mermaid anguish in there. lol
