The SeaGlass Siren
My secret Friend by IAMX & Imogen Heap always reminds me of mermaids.

Also while we are at the topic Beyond the Veil by Lindsey Stirling has this mermaidy feel to me as well. (Especially after I saw the music Video with her in the ocean etc.)

I ended up making a playlist on Spotify called 'Mermaiding'.
They are songs that remind me of, or trigger my imagination over mermaids and the sea. Some tracks are upbeat, some mellow and I like to listen to this while I'm sewing. Artists include Goldfrapp, Cocteau Twins, Agnes Obel, Stranded Mermaid, Lana Del Rey, Beck, Faith & The Muse, ...
Hopefully the link works. I'll keep adding to it as I go, enjoy

Not sure if it's about the feathery or scaly type of siren, but you sure feel like someone is trying to lure you with their song.

I have always loved this melody. In fact I used to hum it to my two youngest daughters when they were two, as a lullaby.

Children's music! The album combines children singing mostly on key with recorded animal sounds and is entirely about the oceans and sea life. I grew up listening to this album on cassette and I adored it. I'm so happy that it is still around and easily available. I might even buy it on itunes.
I don't have a mermaid playlist, but I'm looking for good songs to sing while mermaiding, like when taking a break but still tailed. I definitely like the idea of using sea songs/shanties heavily but I'm sad to admit I don't know many. So far all I've got are "Spanish Ladies," "What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor" and "The Captain's Mate" (thank you Ren Faire and elementary school choir.) I'd like to avoid super depressing stuff like ships sinking and everyone drowning. Do not talk to me about "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitgerald," please, it seriously gives me the creeps.
I suppose this could count as well, sort of. "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate" by the Arrogant Worms. It is fun and easy to sing, more for an adult audience simply because most of the subject matter will be lost on kids. I should know, I first heard it as a kid and all I got out of it was yay pirates!

Fancy a cup of mermaid tea?
I usually sing "Johnny was a Shoemaker." Its nautical, its from a female point of view, and its clean!
Either that or I sing in Gaelic.
I sometimes hum the Beer Song underwater... Does that count?
And I make up dirty sea shanties. Oh and, "She sailed away on sunny summer's day on the back of a crocodile..." I don't know the title but I hum that too!

Found this artist a few months ago. They are from Sweden and I found this music to be absolutely gorgeous. I love the melodies and the vocals are very beautiful and a bit difficult to understand. It's easy for me to imagine it as some sort of mermaid language
Below are a few of my favorites but they have several other albums, the videos below are from the most recent album entitled Blue
"She felt a sarcastic impulse to point out to him that in some circles "inhuman" would be considered a compliment..."
- Waking Storms, Sarah Porter
Yes!! I too, love Jonna Lee, and have been listening to her music for the past two years or so.
The Blue album has sort of become the soundtrack of my personal mermaid journey, and daily daydreaming (for lack of a better description).
"Fountain" is my theme song.

Freyja The Viking Mermaid playlist on Spotify
An older song, it's from 2004. I hear mer in this. Watching Over You by Seabound
From the ice, the blinding white
A schooner's gliding through the night
Angry sea, we sail alone
At last I'm going home
I'm going home
Phantoms lured me off my course
Tried to kill the man I was
You sent a guiding light
Lead me to my lavish bride
To the crag that braves the tide
To the beacon in the night
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you
To the souls that crouch in fear
To the ghosts that disappear
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you
To the crag that braves the tide
To the beacon in the night
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you
To the souls that crouch in fear
Your ghosts will disappear
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you
Seasons change, this time for good
Be this message understood
You're the house I occupy
You're the only reason why
I'm still alive
Didn't see it in the thread, so I'll toss up The Sea Angler by Faith & the Muse.

The Deep by Data Romance
To me the song sounds very dark and reminds me of the ocean at night, or being (you guessed it) in very deep water. There are very few lyrics which I think suits creatures who spend most of their time under the waves and probably wouldn't speak much. Also, the lyric "This would be a pure disaster, life spent on the surface for you. I need the waves, the deep escape..." definitely speaks to my mersona, whose loyalty is to the sea alone and would break hearts at the drop of a shell when she hears the waves calling.
Hope you guys like it!
I like the mermaid compilations from Derek and Brandon Fletcher on youtube.

There is a beautiful cd called Journey To Atlantis from Kevin Kendle and Llewellyn, it is sort of new age music but so mysterious, magical and simply wonderfull.
I found the album on youtube just now so i can share it with you.
The album starts at 1 hour (there is a reiki cd prior) and if you scroll to 1 hour and 34 minutes and wait about 30 seconds, then my favourite song of the cd starts.
I used that music for my 1 and only mermaid gig i did years ago
