The philosophy of India's ban on dolphin captivity

I found this article very interesting.

India was not only the first country in the world to ban dolphin captivity, but their government awarded legal personhood to dolphins.

A step in the right direction.

There is a surprising amount of vegetarians/vegans in India too, so admitting animals do have needs and can feel pain (seriously, what kind of moron is still debating that? oh yea, they're called "scientists") is easier for them than for westerners, who apparently cannot live without their meat and thus need to find excuses besides "it's tasty".
