Hello Everybody!
A few years ago i bought my first mermaid tail at Magictail in Germany.
I have now decided to make a sequins tail and top.
At the moment i have 3 fabric tails: My green one i bought at Magic Tail, a blue one custom made for me and a holographic purple one custom made for me.
I live in the Netherland and sequins are pretty much impossible to find here so i wanted to order from c cartwright.
Luckily my mother in law lives in America (my boyfriend is from America) so she ordered the sequins for me and will ship it to me (this saves me money cause i won't be needing to pay customs this way)
I wanted to work on all 3 tails with sequins but since i joined this forum and read up on information i found out that i don't have nearly enough for 2 tails!
I think i ordered 13.000 sequins in total for 3 tails and 3 tops .....yeah......not gonna happen....lol
Since the total amount including shipping will already be quite a lot at the moment i have decided to just work on 1 tail and top for now.
Thinking just one tail will take a lot of my time already as it is.
Since i am not sure if i can work on my green one since it is a bit old and the fabric is getting thinner i have decided to not work with that one but work on the blue tail first.
The colors i ordered are different shades of green, blue, purple, pink. Then also gold, silver and holographic mixed colors.
I think i can design a tail with those colors. (will include a photo of the blue tail which is just a basic blue tail since it was meant to be painted and filled with sequins)
I do have questions though that i a hoping you may be able to answer:
Is it better to have a zipper in the back with a sequins tail? Even if it is spandex or lycra?
I also bought some plastic floor matting to work as fringes.
The plastic is not just a flat piece of plastic but can best be described as a corderoy pants type which i think will work great.
In my opinion sowing would be best for that, but do any of you have experience with it and prefer glueing versus sowing?
My tails are open at the bottom so you can put the monofin in and take it out afterwards.
Is this the way to do it? Or is it better to leave the monofin inside the tail?
The monofins i have are from Magictail in Germany.
And there is the question of sowing the sequins on or doing it by hand.
I will most likely do a test run with some left over blue fabric to see if sowing them will work and to compare which looks better (will off course share the results with all of you)
I saw that Hannah Mermaids tail has a belt on the inside, what would that be for? Is that needed?
I have more questions and am sure i will have even more as this journey progresses.
