Does Syrena know about this? I hope she can make it from Singapore.

Doesn't look like schoolies will be an issue, now that it's going to be at Moreton Island!
I wonder if we can get Mahina Mermaid to come along?

♥ Don't Deny You Be You ♥
We have official dates 12th to the 14th of Jan 2016!!!!
Yay so excited now to save every cent to have the best experience possible at this merquest
cool. nice to have a date to organize around
Moreton Island.....isn't that the Moreton Island just east of Brisbane?
:S That's.....inconvenient.
Hmm. Flights + Shuttle to ferry + return ferry + accomodation + tickets.
I'll have to do my maths and see how things add up.

Just a thought: It's the first Mer-convention for us Aussies. Would it not be in our best interest to have it easy to get to, from a ticket selling POV?
Well the accommodation will be cheaper than it would have been on the Gold Coast, I think. Someone mentioned we can get discounted ferry rates because we're booking a function room, and I can't say for sure but maybe some of us who live in Brisbane could meet people at the airport and taxi them to the ferry.
A thought for mers coming from interstate: sometimes I have found it can be cheaper to fly to the Gold Coast airport and catch the train up to Brisbane (takes about an hour). It might even work that my boyfriend and I could pick people up from OOL if it's considerably cheaper and the train takes too long.
Something to consider, at least! I don't want mers to decide they can't come because of the extra travel Moreton Island is seriously beautiful and the perfect place for a mer convention!

If we have it on Moreton I'll have to be a maybe because I can get money to stretch but I'm not a magician.
Purely because of the extra costs put on because of the ferry. As you need to think it's not just a cost of the ferry, you have to park your car in their carpark if you choose not to take it across on the barge. Then there are the transfer costs from the ferry/barge landing point to Tangalooma. If you have brought a car you can drive it to Tangalooma. But having it brought over isn't cheap.
And for interstate mers who are also having to pay for flights and then we all have to pay for accommodation on top of that. It get's pretty pricey pretty quick.

Elle if you're around Brisbane I'm happy to car-pool you, I made the same offer to Melaina. I have a friend who's willing to just drop us off so that no car has to be left their if we like.
I'd have my husband/land transport with me and in all likelihood his son as well.
We just might have to opt for staying at Moreton's castaway accommodation or go glamping (which is up the north end and a bit of a trek from Tangalooma)
I've done the maths, to get there, stay and come home it's going to cost around $800+ dependent on what the cost of accommodation is in Tangalooma (that's without the cost of food or anything)

I'm with Annwyn on this. for a first ever convention here, I think picking somewhere on the sunshine coast or the gold coast would be better than going out to an island. I'd love for as many of us to go as possible. and if we have mers coming from the other side of the country, they're looking at $500-$600 for their flights on top of the accomodation, cost of tickets, food, etc.

I think the most beautiful place to hold our first MerQuest is so worth every penny! We also have a underwater photographer coming to do the most epic photo shoots on the ship wrecks! I know about the cost as I'm flying my whole family over from W.A and the airfare for us is just over $3000 but we have a plan to pay things as we go. Accomodation, then flights, ferry (which we have a big discount on) $43 return and then some spending money.
We are not wealthy but we have a plan and a year to make this happen! xx
I was really really really excited about this.....but it seems the need for an island place has completely sank any chance what so ever of me being able to afford to come 😢
I really cannot afford to pay for a plane, taxi, hotel and ferry. Its just not doable even if i started saving from now, i have to much i have to pay every week and my extra savings just would not stretch far enough for myself and my partner to come 😔
At the start it was sounding doable though.
