    Dragon Skin Shore Letter??

    Hey MerNetwork

I've Been looking for a while
and although we all talk about
    Dragon Skin Silicone, I haven't
    found the shore hardness
    corrisponding via Shore Hardness
Scale by Smooth On for Dragon Skin.

The retailer by me sells Shore A 0-30
and I don't know if these will work for
    a tail.

I'm sorry if this is already posted
somewhere but I would love some
    input!

It's A. http://www.smooth-on.com/Silicone-Ru...129/index.html Second paragraph, in bold at the end. Your retailer's stuff should work just fine.

I thought most folks used shore A 10 though?

Yes, most people use A 10, as it is soft and stretchy. I've heard of people experimenting with higher hardnesses for the fluke, but everyone seems to agree that shore 10 is the best for the body of the tail.

I can't say for certain that shore A 30 wouldn't work, I agree with Aziara and Kate that A 10 seems to be the most popular. I can't speak from experience and its possible that 30 would work. But it does seem to be less tested.

Has anyone on here experimented with A 30 for a tail?

It depends. The slow, medium, and fast refer to the time it takes for the silicone to cure. If you've never worked with silicone you might want to go with slow. However, that doesn't mean you cannot use medium.

The slow has a pot life of 45 minutes (meaning that's how long you have after mixing parts A and B together before it starts to cure) and a de-mold time of 7 hours (meaning it takes 7 hours to actually cure).

The medium has a pot life of 20 minutes, so you'll have less time to work with it and move it around before it starts to cure. It has a de-mold time of 5 hours.

I wouldn't recommend fast unless you are really experienced. All the info can be found here: http://www.smooth-on.com/Silicone-Ru...129/index.html

One thing to take into consideration is that, out of each of the Dragonskin silicones, Dragonskin 30 has the smallest percent of "Elongation at Break" at 364% (Dragonskin 10 has 1000%, Dragonskin 20 has 620%) So you may not get the stretch that you were looking for. It may also be more brittle.
