Thread: What is the name of your past/current aquatic pet?

What is the name of your past/current aquatic pet?

This includes fish, crayfish, hermit crabs, etc. I noticed lots of mers on the last thread I made were excited to share info on their fish. I thought this would be a cute thread for everyone to share stories of their pets and get ideas for their next aquatic pet from past pet names. Plus I think it would be interesting to see what kind of unique names our creative minds have given our aquatic loved ones. Dogs and cats aren't the only animals that have touched our lives people!

My first betta fish was named Archie, and we took it everywhere we traveled. That little fish has been to more US states than some humans! My second betta was named Bartholomew. My nephew has one named Bluey, but for some reason its color changed from blue to red, so now he literally has a red fish named Bluey. (If anyone knows the answer to why it changed color I'd love to know.) Plus, we've had a pufferfish named Mrs. Puff and a crab named Mr. Krabs (Spongebob anyone? ). My dad also has a piranha named Firecracker because when we first got it it swam around really fast in its tank, and a fish named Felix (not sure what kind it is but it looks like a really tiny longnose gar.)

So, what is the name of your past/current aquatic pet? Any good memories/adventures with them?

I'm a big fan of pun names for fish. I had a betta a couple years ago named F Scott Fishgereld. My best friend has a betta named Fin Jong Gill. He's the supreme leader of his bowl.

Those are amazing fish names! XD

My childhood goldfish was named Pumpkinseed. He had his tail bitten off by the tank bully.

OMG! I think I might have a name for my white betta now! He's been nameless for so long, poor thing.
I also have a crowntail betta named Spike, and a reddish betta named Sashimi. Sashimi started out as a joke because my cats kept trying to figure out how to get to him, and the name stuck.

Those names are everything. Hysterical. I bet those bettas could throw one heck of a party...

My sister and I had a pair of goldfish as children, named Frieda and Fennel. Frieda was hers, Fennel was mine.

One day, one of the fish died. My sister informed me that it was mine, and I was sad. Her fish lived on.

The next day, the other fish died. My sister told me that, too, was my fish, and I was sad. Her fish never died, mine died twice.

I had African clawed frogs for years.

    Posideon, Neptune, and Njord
    A plecostimus (sp) named Leviathan

And many, many bettas with creative names. (Red, blue, orange, green... so many colors of bettas. I could not leave the store without saving one from cup life)

We used to have a cherry shrimp that my husband named Pepperoni, and a ghost shrimp that he named Shrimpington. We also had two African clawed frogs back in our college days that we called Big Mac and Whopper.

As we got older we grew lame and tend to call our tank friends what they are: Pleco, -insert color here- guppy, hatchet, female betta, swordtail, balloon molly, etc….

So my very first fish, if I recall correctly, was a black goldfish with the big googley eyes and I named him Eatey, because he liked to eat. I also had a bunch of male bettas, but the only name I can still recall was Swimming Prince. I might have had multiple "generations" of Swimming Princes.

Fancy a cup of mermaid tea?

Such a cute idea for names! I had some fish with TV-inspired names as well- three fancy guppies named Lucy, Ricky, and Ethel! I also had a crowntail betta named Jose (after the bird in the Enchanted Tiki Room show at Disney). He was so pretty- Jose even went to college with me and lived in the dorm, so I was really attached to him. He passed away a few months ago from old age. Now, I have a goldfish named Madison. She has more than doubled in size since I got her, so I am hoping that she doesn't get so big I have to build a pond for her ROFL!
