I've been reading around about tail makers to avoid, and I keep seeing kanti mentioned, but searching the forums doesn't bring any results? What did she do?

Ah she started making tails and held a raffle for a tail, tickets were sold and then she went poof!

I think the thread is called the Tailmaker's Blacklist or something along those lines.
Yeah, she took off with quite a few people's money. I sent her a tracing of my Oceanika (at the time, now Mahina) MerFin for her sculpting. I also paid for one raffle ticket, which I think was $25, but I managed to get my refund. I believe that quite a few others didn't.
I didnt even know she gave out any refunds. I just thought she disappeared.

I paid in full for a tail. I recieved a refund, but I think I was the only one out of the people who bought tails. I'm still not sure to this day exactly why :/ I think it might be because I didn't ask her about it, which is ridiculous
(Warning:Somewhat long post coming up!)
I remember when her raffle was happening. I almost bought a ticket for her raffle, but got distracted by other things (like saving up for a tail and watching Youtube,LOL) I went on Hiatus and came back to learn about what happened with her,to find out how lucky I really was. I felt a bit bad though, not quite survivors guilt (Almost Scam Victims Guilt?!?) because of all of the mers who were tricked for their money. Although I've gone through this in the community before (I almost bought a tail from Stevi/FishButts.) It was just so shocking to be honest because I've spoken/typed with Kanti about 2-3 times before and NEVER seemed like someone who would do go on to do anything like this Her tail tutorial on Youtube is still quite cool though.Despite all the rambling, that's all I remember about this whole thing with Kanti. All of the companies on the blacklist to my knowledge are all no longer in existence.
sorry for the long post,I'm just trying to contribute to what you are looking into,I wish I could honestly contribute more, but so many people are just scared to tell others in the community about those bad experiences (So they decide to contact people like Raina or Iona about it instead,as if they can do something about it?) That's all I have to contribute. When it comes to people like Kanti and terrible tailmakers , In my opinion the best thing you can do is speak out about them and what they did. That way if something like that happens again,we wont let bad history repeat itself.![]()

I completely agree, people really need to voice the issues when there's something sketchy going on or else someone else could end up scammed. I think we're all gentlemers here and no one wants to talk trash, we need a seawitch to take down the badies haha
I totally get the not getting scammed guilt I had a friend date a guy I was thinking about going after before they got together and he turned out awfulllll felt bad but glad I didn't have to deal with it
Just know: if the people are still active you are pretty much guaranteed to be called a bully.

Thanks for the info Raina.I was just at a point of the rant making me go "GAH!".when I tend to start going on about things I just tend to go all out,I don't mean to make myself seem that way.By the way,I literally just finished reading your second book as of this afternoon and it was absolutely fintastic!![]()

Yeah I was one of the people who ordered a silicone tail from Stevi and was scammed. My mom paid for it as a birthday present, and it broke my heart to tell her that it was a scam, and my whole family believed for a long time that the mermaid community was a joke.
But I know so much more than I did then, and I feel much more wary of contests and sales online.
If anything, it made me a better shopper, and I found alot of support when others shared their horror stories on Mernetwork.

Aw thank you! And don't worry, I'ce definitely moved on and learned from the situation. And luckily the majority of my family has grown to accept my love of mermaiding.
Besides, theres been so many scams in this community that it honestly makes it easier to relate to others.

I didnt mean anything wrong with your post, just that typically this is why people don't speak out. They get labelled as bullies. Also, anytime I've EVER called out a scammer it has turned into a big site wide drama. People see that and tell me, they dont want it to happen to them so they don't speak out.
that's so sad!It takes so long for people to open their eyes, because so many are scared to come forward and show others what is actually happening.when speaking out and raising awareness is much better for the community than staying quiet and letting the problems expand to others, which will cause drama that could have most likely gotten avoided in the first place
