I'm also looking at this stuff: it's cold activated which means I could achieve my dream of being one of those barbies that change color underwater. I was thinking, if I mixed this in with a little bit of my glow/blue pigment, I could have rust stains that go from a bright turquoise to a royal blue. Or something. I dunno, silicone might insulate it too much.

Here's a video of the pigments doing their thing:

Omg I REALLY hope you find a way to use that solar changing dust because I've been wanting to see somebody use it on a tail for EVER! It's so damn cool.

That reminds me of those spoons from the cereal box that changed color when you "added milk"

    Yes! Please tell us!!!!

I got another shipment of pigments and then Wesley was SUPER kind and brought me her leftover pigments as well and honestly... I should film myself rolling in it. That's basically how I feel about it.

I also got a pot of aqua glow pigment too. This way the pigment won't dilute the color of my patina and I can probably add the white glow to the tummy scales too. MAXIMUM GLOW PAYOFF.

Also I got holo glitter. Why? I don't know. But look at it.

    SILVER

    HOLO

GLITTER. (But my phone won't photograph the rainbow unicorn majesty)

Used the new pigments today with some dragonskin fast. GUYS. GET DRAGONSKIN FAST ONCE YOU'VE GOT YOUR PIGMENT GAME DOWN. IT'S THE BEST.

I also played with laying gold leaf down into the scales under a layer of clear. It came out lovely but the silicone doesn't stick to it well so I'll have to be careful with how I use it.

Laid down more copper and some patina tests.

Oh my god this gold leaf on gold is my dream.

    SUCCESS

Also I threw a bunch of spare pigment into one scale and it looked pretty great.

Use gold leaf sparingly, it will cause your silicone to separate. It's thin, but it's still a piece of sheet metal.

They look nice! Save some of the slower cure silicone for attaching your scales, though.

I love the way the patina scales look - it's really a great idea! The leftover pigment scale looks pretty awesome too!

Yes, I noticed the separation as I was pulling the scale out of the mold. It's fine though because I think I like the flakey look a bit more. The leftover scale is the one that's REALLY falling apart.

Oh my goodness, have you taken the time to learn about our Lord and Savior dragonskin fast?

(I'm so sorry if I offended any Utah mermaids just now)

I just had a very efficient afternoon producing scales. I love that Dragon skin fast cures so quickly. In fact, I was thinking about the fact that it cures so quickly I don't have the time to dawdle between molds. In a perfect world I would still have Dragon skin slow to use during the weekdays I have work so I can pour and cure while I'm away and Dragon skin fast for the days that I don't work and can devote the most amount of time to making scales.

Anyway the fast cure time was good because I'm still experimenting somewhat with colors now that I have a gold that I like. I'm also trying to get the colors to gradate nicely between such a rosy copper and a yellow gold.

I discovered what gave my soft peachy rose gold it's color just in time to realize it wouldn't blend as nicely as I thought. Oh well, I've discovered how to make it more saturated.

In other good news, I got a nicer patina set done (as you can see from before.)

    So many excite.

Pro tip: use a heat gun, it makes regular dragonskin cure in a fraction of the time! (That's what I do when I need something to cure fast. I can't use the fast-cure silicone because many of my molds are too intricate and I have to use a toothpick to work the silicone into some of the really thin areas so I need it to NOT cure too fast in that case.)

Selkish I love your collection of metallic scales - This is going to be a really cool tail!

So the longer the cute time the better for intricate work Theobromine? I've found an Australia producer of silicone and am not sure what the cure time is on it yet but I hope it'll be long enough...
