    Flowy, Frilly Fins and Fluke?

So the planing for my extended tail are still in swing, just slow as crap cause money and time continue to be an issue
but we have a pretty rounded out idea what everything we need and how we have to go about it all

I'm just having one little issue.
Trying to figure out just how to make flowly frilly fins out of silicone
    should i just use fabric?
Should i do a combination of fabric and silicone?
    should i use latex instead?

I honestly have no idea how to go about this.

heres my tail design and how i want to fins to look

Silicone fins feel more fishy, I think that would probably work a lot better for your purposes. Pretty much you just sculpt the fins, make the mold, and pour a softer silicone. Smooth-On sells silicone with a softer shore hardness that would work great.

Yeah, just sculpt your fins just like you want them to be! I believe Mizuko and a few other mers put fins on their silicone tails, so maybe check their threads out.

I agree with Mer Emma, just you'll have to cast them thinner to get a flowy fabricy feel to them so you'll have to be extra careful.

a bit late to the party here, but if you want them to be really frilly/flowy instead of just flat fins with a wavy edge, i know that flounce ruffles look really nice! [for fabric at least, but i don't imagine thin silicone would behave much differently].
if you're familiar with circle skirts, it's basically one of those opened up with the waistline lying flat. it makes a loose, flowy 3d frill because the outer edge is longer than the inner edge!
    they look like this!

and here's some [vague] instructions on how to make them. if this does appeal to you at all, i can give you some better instructions on how to calculate the dimensions.

i'm not very knowledgeable about what material would look best, but imo the actual shape of the molds/fins is gonna be key to how they look and move!

Hmm! Now there's an idea. Molding the fins on a curve would make the outside edge bigger and therefore wavy! I'd say it's worth some small tests if you're going for POTC style side fins.
