Thread: Show us your tail designs!

  1. #301
Thanks Tieri, but I took some merbellas bases into ms paint and sort of tried to color them until they matched my visions. I'm having an issue between designs, though. I can't decide what i want the back to look like, which is giving me issues with the sides as well. I...here, I'll put the pictures.

So, the first design is the prettiest from the back, which is the part you'll be able to see when I'm actually swimming unless I'm on my back, but I want a dorsal fin, which wouldn't really fit in right. Of course, i could totally do without a dorsal (I didn't even like them at all until recently), but I noticed when I was drawing up my design that the black striped look a lot like Ayla's tail, and I'm trying to avoid looking like someone else's tail, and since she has the same pattern on both sides, changing it up would help me look more unique, plus she has no extra fins. I also added more blue than i originally planned in order to avoid looking too much like Ayla (so sorry for having a similar idea Ayla, but I have my heart pretty set on the black stripes). I'm pretty set on pectoral and heel fins as well, and I think they'd look okay if I had them put right on one of the stripes and just started black so it was like they were growing out of the stripes, but i can't draw fins and don't even know what would be a good shape for them, so i left them off the tail, haha. I can draw much better by hand, but I don't have a scanner, and I can't upload pictures to the computer from my phone because technology has turned its back on me as of late.

So basically, this is the pros and cons of each design.
Design 1: pros=prettier, I like it better, probably not as hard on raven / cons=looks a lot like ayla's tail, dorsal fin (which I'm not even set on) might look wonky
Design 2: pros=more original, dorsal would go perfectly / cons=i don't like it quite as much, not as pretty, might look weird from the back

Also, I couldn't get the colors just right. The black and white are right (although the white will be more pearlescent), but the blue should look more like this:

So, which design do you think? (If i do get a dorsal on the second design, the stripes will continue up the dorsal, so the dorsal would also be blue and black striped. Dorsal, dorsal, dorsal)

I can read, you are undecided for the design. I love this blue!
So,I can suggest to you to paint only the front with the stripes and the back in total blue with shade edges (for the stripes and the dorsal What do you think?

Does the Merbella pattern have a round tail? I might try coloring in mine and see what I get.

this is my design round 2

    actually 3 but I didn't save round 2

If I had the money, I would get a tail with decorative fins but for now I'm keeping it simple

Selkie, I love your tail design! It really looks seal-like. Hope you can start your tail soon :-)

I'm like a platypus in the way that I can adapt on land and water, a bit goofy looking, and nobody's really sure what it is that I do.

These are some I've thought of. The 2 last ones are the design for my personal tail and then a close up of the scales at the top

Red. Cause I haven't seen any red mermaids. I thought it would be a more popular color over purple or blue. OH and I found a paddle like fluke!

I know this one isn't really flashy but I am going for a realistic look and not fantasy appearance.
I APPLAUD realistic fantasy!! Everyone likes to make random.... "stuff" and ANYONE can make something random and call it original or cool.. but it takes MAD MAD skills to look at reality and say.... "I will clone you" *shakes fist* LMAO Anyone who is bold enough to take on the task of making a copy of reality is AWESOME!! That shows skills most people don't have YOU ROCK!!
