Hi lady I missed this post earlier! The tail is going to be a rainbow of warm colors- cream, peach, gold, burgundy, deep purple. I'm still working out my template, but I'm getting the Loreena fluke with some added fins on the ankle and hips. These are the colors, I made the headdress to wear for dry events Name: 10386394_806392719395466_1561222723320865915_n.jpg

    SO BEAUTIFUL!!

Also, I don't remember if I ever posted this trick I learned (I remember telling Arion about it though): use lube, and lube up the OUTSIDE of the tail as well as the inside. Especially if you have wide hips like me :P The waist is very high and tight which helps it stay on really well, but makes it really difficult to pull up over itself. So you fold it about halfway down, get your feet in (lube makes this part way easy), and start pulling it up over your calves and knees. Once you have it past your knees and up towards your thighs you will probably start having more trouble as the folded-down upper part of the tail will now be tight against itself. So I squirt some lube or aloe gel (works great, cheap at Trader Joe's) in under the folded-over part and use my hands to spread it around. That way the scales will slide past each other MUCH more easily, and you also won't risk tugging on and possibly damaging any extra fins you might have (I had this problem once with my arowana pectoral fins).

Anyway, your mileage may vary, but I am a bit curvy, and I did have Abby and Bryn make my tail extra tight since I was paranoid about waist gapping. I don't think everyone took as long as I did to get my tail on for the first time--it took me an hour. I almost cried.

But I perservered and I DID IT and now I have it down to about 10 minutes.

Oh trust me I think I took that long too! When I got frustrated I just did what Abby and Bryn told me, imagine a mermaid trying to ride a bike! Of course it didn't help I only had water at the time to help with my legs! But I did but coconut oil last night so that should be better! And thanks for that tip! I REALLY needed that, I have big hips and a small waist lol... My biggest struggle is getting my feet in the straps though because I have such small ankles and fitting my hand in there to get the strap is SO difficult! But hopefully coconut oil will help!

Never give up, even when you get frustrated! I stubbornly tried with no lube for the first time (just water from the pool I was sitting/next to) and it really didn't work. It must have taken me half an hour just to get my feet into the footpockets. When I finally gave in and got some lube, my feet slid right in and I was like WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE, LUBE?! Haha. So after that the hardest part was pulling it up over my thighs and hips. I still had to get in the water halfway through the process and have my husband help by holding onto me while I pulled it up the rest of the way :P I almost mooned soooo many kids at the local Y, argh.

Anyway, I think everyone just has to figure out their perfect technique. Now I can get into my tail by myself in 10-15 minutes, just sitting next to the pool (on a yoga mat!) and using lube. Or aloe, which I recently found works just as well as Astroglide and is actually easier to wipe off your fingers for when you need a no-slip grip. So coconut oil may work, but I'm pretty sure aloe is slipperier and I feel more comfortable using it on silicone (I'm still unsure how safe oils are on silicone). Also, keep a towel handy for wiping your hands but also helping you to grab your tail even more securely to pull it up (learned that trick from Iona).

Hmm. Would anyone be interested is I made a tutorial (pictures or video) on how I put on my Finfolk tail? I'm not that great with media and I've never made a video before, but I'm sure I could put something together.

Personally, I would be interested to see
It could be very helpful and informative.

I thought you might, Arion I'll see what I can put together. I'm not experienced at making videos, but I could probably do it in a single take and just upload it that way. It doesn't have to be fancy and that way I could get it done sooner.

My unboxing video wasn't staged either
I did it in a single take as well and I just edited it for english subtitles. I didn't care about the fancy part, it's easier to be yourself and stay natural.

Much faster than with water-based lube??

Not sure, I haven't tried that! But I got in the foot pockets and the straps on almost instantly! My biggest problem was getting it past my hips this time lol. I thought my mom was going to die laughing at me

Know what? Let's all make videos getting into or tails and make a compilation! It could be informative AND hilarious! I made a video getting into mine (sans fluke), and almost took a face dive into the deck.

OMG.... It took Miss Marlin and I fighting for like 20 min to help get me get into my tail the first time... I was exhausted :P We would have to speed up each clip like 5 or 6 times for comedic effect.

I love this idea though We should definitely do it.

J-Lube was my savior. It's powdered lube (for veterinarian use but you KNOW that's not all it's used for!) that you add a little to water and get a TON of lube. Dump a teaspoon in a water bottle, shake, and voila! TONS of lube for really cheap! Lather up them legs A LOT (my buddy Jack, king of the fisting community, had a word of wisdom for me once: You can NEVER have too much lube!) Lube like CRAZY and it will slip on like... Lots of dirty things went through my mind there so I am not finishing that sentence. But you will be able to put it on fast and relatively easy. Here's a link for the J Lube. Every mer should have a bottle IMHO.
