Taking on a full latex tail

Hi guys! It's Indie, I've officially decided to take on a full latex tail and I'm so excited. It's inspired by a Tiger Lilly and I'll be posting pictures of progress

    This is my design

And this is my fluke pattern thing

    Update! I got my clay

More foam for my scale board

And this clear finish spray stuff

It says it's a clear latex finish so I'm going to do some test swatches first

I am going to have to get some of that low odor clear finish. IF it works, I can use that instead of spending tons of cash on perma-wet. where did you get it?

I need fluke sculpting help. I have the main part of it sculpted out but now I'm not really sure how to do the fluke pocket, like do I just build it up in a mound or... I'm just really confused

Usually the scales cover the feet

a mound will give you more surface area to adhere to when you connect the fluke and body. This will make it a stronger connection and less hassle on how to attach them to each other.

Right so I finished my fluke, minus the foot pocket

I love how it came out, I'm casting it tomorrow so we'll see how that goes

I'm at this stage myself, right down to messy plaster on top of my table! XD Good luck!!

Thanks! I just pulled the mold and started trying to pull the clay out

Unfortunately I have some massive air bubbles and pockets under neath my first layer of plaster

Any ideas about how to get the remaining clay out and fix the air bubble?

Oooh, not sure! Hate to say, but id just resculpt and cast again, and make sure to lay the plaster on a bit at a time and gently work it into the crevices by hand. Bang on the table really hard when youre done, like DRUM on it, to loosen remaining bubbles.

Im thinking about doing that. But for right now I just filled in the bubbles with more plaster and put in a thin layer of latex to do a dirty casting so we'll see how that goes

So i pulled the dirty casting!

It's a little skishad, there's some air bubbles that got in but otherwise it came out awesome! The next step is to get more funding and order my latex!
