I will be moving to an apartment in the next month, so I might end up switching to your method for my next tail Pearlie. :3

    Cool! Good luck!

Want to hear something dumb? I have a center island in my kitchen big enough to hold an entire traditional scale sheet, and I made this entire tail practically in my lap!

Would have if I was more patient. I think I made mine the same way you made yours.
I just realized who you are, pearliemae. Your'e the one that made that amazing purple tail I saw floating around Facebook. Do you use individual scales too? Iv'e been doing that since I started. Don't you love how they move? Yours look like sparkling seashells. I love it!!! <3

Once upon a time I was known as Seavanna. Going by Seatan these days. I always wanted to be the high lord of underwater hell.

That is gorgeous! I love the fish 3D effect with the thicker parts on it.
All that glitters is not gold,

The old that is strong does not whither,
Deep roots are not touched by the frost.

Haha, you could almost use the feather pattern as a scale texture!

That's so funny! I was looking through this thread for the video link for trying on my tail body and someone posted that very image saying the same thing, but months ago!

And don't think I didn't try impressing a feather into my clay! The texture was just too subtle, but I did make some peacock scales!

I've always had this idea that someone could do a sort of 'harpy' thing, where they would take bird feather and arrange them like you did your scales, and then cover them in a sealer. That would make a really cool bird-fish hybrid look. I don't know if that's possible though...

I tried covering feathers with silicone. The results are very sad. Feathers are meant for air, truly they are.

I did make some peacock feather-LOOKING scales, though. With a little refinement, they could be quite convincing.

But it would be an interesting challenge, though!

Haha, I suppose I must be content with the regular scales. Yeah, silicone would NOT mix well with tiny bird feathers, would it?

I'm sorry, Odette! I don't know how I missed this post!

Yes, that's my purple tail on Facebook! This tail would probably be 2 pounds lighter if I took out all the glitter! Hahaha!

Naw, I tried with some lovebird feathers, and they just dull right up. And then the silicone peels off.
