I've had similar occurrences with my manager. She took a couple days off to go see an American football game in another state, so I covered for her (it's only us two in the office) and then on the days when I request off for family matters, nearly a month in advanced, she would say no because it would 'most likely be a busy day'. However, on a busy day she can leave the office early because 'she's bored and doesn't want to do the work' and leave it to me.
I may be the assistant, and I'm more than happy to assist on what I'm supposed to, but when she goes 'Oh. Remind me to shut my car windows before it rains.' I get a little frustrated hahah

They asked for me to go in tonight five minutes before opening, I was busy and couldn't and they tried to bribe me those two days to get me to come in.

Thanks Viktoria, you've make so much from that simple investment, no one would think to question that decision your Mermaid likely shown before the tail. I suspect your husband is ready to buy you another if you wanted it. The magic you've given it shows.
For me only my oldest friends know my inner Merman. Frankly I'm excited in the process of the build I get to use most of what I've learned to build it. This group of folks is so wonderful and am more surprised with each story.
So paraphrasing PearlieMae, I remain undeterred by others low expectations.

Ugh. I've been trying to get my camera to work, but it suddenly decided that I can't put photos on my SD card anymore. Hence, my photos are stuck on my camera. -.- Stupid thing. I can't load photos of my client's jewelry or even stock photos for my Etsy shop without it.

Are you using a USB cable to offload your photos? If so, pick up a card reader and try to unload your photos with that. They are cheap, usually under ten bucks, but remember, you get what you pay for, so go with a brand name. Might be a couple bucks more, but usually worth it.

Get a back up SD card, too. Once you get your images off the one you have, reformat it. That might be part of the problem. Good luck!

I'll look into that. Thanks Pearlie. <3

    No worries!

I just thought of something else...take your card to anyplace with a photo center, Walgreens, CVS, etc... and have them copy your card's content to a CD or DVD, then reformat the card. A lot of digital junk builds up, so it's good to reformat often.

I haven't gotten any work done on my tail for a month. And the only reason for that is because I'm too busy. I have all my supplies just sitting at home taking up space and I actually don't have enough hours in the day to get enough sleep so forget about any extra activities. Whenever I'm free I'm too mentally exhausted to do anything so my school work is suffering too. *headdesk* I'm spread way too thin. I need time off. I only slept four hours last night and I'm gonna get sick at this rate.

    I think I made a huge mistake.

So, since October of last year, I was a third-shift tillbitch for a gas station near my house. The pay sucked, but it was just enough to pay my share of the rent and bills... The last few months, most of my payments were late and I rarely had much left over for groceries or food of any kind, but I kept at it.

The job itself was utter shit because apparently, my employers believed that "Labor Laws" were more of a vague suggestion than actual laws, as I was frequently left in the store alone for 6-8 hours at a time by myself with no opportunity for even a bathroom break, much less a chance to sit down or eat, which started to lead to a lot of physical and mental health issues. At one point, when I was alone I lost all hearing in my right ear, couldn't see straight and suddenly could barely walk. I called the assistant manager to tell her "hey, serious shit is happening to me right now, I need someone to cover for me because I NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL"... And she flipped out, told me to deal with it and hung up on me. So I suffered through the remaining five hours of my shift by myself, barely able to function.

I was robbed earlier in the year, which was a horrifying experience, yet my concerns since then about working alone at night (I'm a quiet, nervous 5'2" and 120lb girl; I'm not exactly the most imposing cashier and I've been terrorized and harassed by customers looking to take advantage of this) have largely gone ignored or brushed off as me being "oversensitive"... And I'd still be scheduled by myself.

I spent the last few weeks job hunting, and finally had something lined up at Best Buy, right across the street from the gas station. Same five-minute walk to work, better hours, I'd be getting paid at least $2 more per hour, plus full health and dental coverage. I had two interviews, nailed them both like a freakin' boss, and was told that they'd get me in for my third and final interview; once they confirmed I had the last interview, I was basically guaranteed the job. I was ready to go.

Then a week ago, the gas station job went to absolute hell; I had a nasty encounter with a bunch of asshole customers that left me scared to go into work; my assistant manager ditched me alone, told me to do HER audit for her (which is her job, not mine; I'm just a cashier. I'm not even allowed to do that because technically I'm not trained/ not trusted by corporate enough, and she isn't allowed to leave for the day until her audits are done). Did I mention that she left the second a dozen suits from one of our major suppliers came in to expect the store, which she expected ME to somehow handle with zero warning of who they were and what I was supposed to do? Yeah. This was also right at the beginning of an 8-hour shift where I would be by myself without any opportunity for a break. Which is very, very illegal.

I got bitched out for not getting everything cleaned and stocked and ~*perfect*~ at the same time I had to deal with nonstop floods of customers BY MYSELF during one of our busiest weeks all summer, was threatened to get written up for declining sales on propane tanks and propane exchanges (propane is kept outside the buildinh and I'm not allowed to leave the cash when I'm by myself and there's customers around... It's a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't situation...)

Long story short, it got to be too much, and I said "Fuck it. This job is hell on earth, I've practically got that position at Best Buy, what happens here isn't going to affect any of my other job opportunities because corporate won't allow anyone working with this shit company to give out references anyway, so I have literally nothing to lose."

So at the end of my second-last shift of the week I went home, typed up an "as of now I am hereby quitting due to personal reasons" letter of resignation, delivered it to the store at 1am and put it somewhere where the assistant manager and my boss would see it first thing in the morning.

Then they got incredibly pissed off, spam-called my phone from five separate numbers so they could yell at me for not giving them two weeks' notice (not legally required to present two weeks' notice, that's a courtesy thing, and when I'm in a position that the job I'm doing has me constantly stressed out to the point of causing seriously harmful relapses in my mental and physical health, two weeks isn't an option anyway). So I was left feeling like shit, but figured "Whatever, Best Buy will get back to me any day now about the position, and I'll start working there and things will get better anyway."

It's been over a week since I quit— two weeks since I had my interviews with Best Buy— and I still haven't heard anything. I'm starting to think they may have changed their mind about hiring me.

Which means I'm fucked. Literally nobody else will look at me and I've been rejected from just about everywhere else I actually have transportation to. I'm dead broke, my phone bill and house bills are dur this week, and I have zero income. I'm going job hunting tomorrow but I'm honestly not feeling confident because I don't even know what else is around here that I'll even have a chance at anymore. I'm terrified and I'm desperate and I'm kicking myself for quitting before making absolutely sure I had another job lined up... I've been so stressed out over it the last few days that I've barely slept and when I do sleep, I get nightmares and old hags, which really aren't helping.

Can't even get in to see a therapist right now either, because I'm still on a 4-month waiting list to get in to see one.

Fuck my life. Fuck. My. Life.

    Fuuuuuuuck...

If you were here in the states, I could tell you exactly how to ream those fuckers, but I have no idea about Canadian labor laws! I would write to the corporate offices, though, and rat those shits out for the abuses your superiors are guilty of. Contact the labor department and report their violations against you and file an official complaint. Threaten to sue EVERYBODY.

Follow up with Best Buy and ask what the status of your application is, since the holiday season is approaching and you are considering other opportunities, but like Best Buy because they are a well known and respected company, and you like that they are close to home.

Good luck, hun! You'll get through this!

I am so sorry it sucks but you did the right thing! If you're super stuck you CAN file your situation with unemployment and argue you needed to leave for safety reasons backed up with how they harassed you when you left. I have a friend who had a similar experience after being robbed and was able to do that.

Maybe give best buy a call and dont give up dear! <3

What about reporting that shit to corporate? Somebody up higher needs to know of those shenanigans

Unfortunately, HR is there to protect the company, not the workers. I'm not the only one who's tried to file a formal complaint about the work conditions, and I'm not the only one who's been met with silence. :/

Corporate is the one making these decisions. The one time my boss actually tried to get people working with me in the evenings so I'd stop complaining, corporate got on his case for using "too many hours" on the schedule. Also why HR is refusing to take action.

I'm going out in a couple of hours to meet up with my boyfriend as he's getting off work, so I'll stop into Best Buy then and see if one of the managers is around that I could ask about it (since I have to go by Best Buy anyway and, honestly, I'm a little weird about talking over the phone unless it's someone calling me :P) so I've got my fingers crossed. Feeling a bit better now that I've actually gotten some sleep and stopped stressing out enough to think about the situation more rationally, and tomorrow I'll be slamming everywhere within reach with resumes to see what'll stick. If I don't get the Best Buy job this time around, they'll be hiring a lot of people again in November for the Christmas season and I'm absolutely guaranteed the position if I apply then, so with any luck, even if I get another less-than-stellar job in the meantime, it'll tide me over until I can get into Best Buy or somewhere else during the Christmas season.

when you apply to these places tell him that you want to be the assistant manager train to be manager and then they''ll explain you have to be your cashier first but you get you a little higher pay grade and you get promotions faster.

No Disney Store. We don't get cool stuff like that in Newfoundland... I would be the happiest person alive if we had one here though! ;-; I once ordered a pair of Lady and the Tramp plushies for my older sister for her birthday from Disney's website and the shipping and customs costs came to more than the toys themselves (Toys were $30, shipping and customs came to ~$55). It was rough. :c I'd be SO NICE to have a shop like that here so I wouldn't have to spend so goddamn much on shipping!

(also if I could work there oh my god I'd be the best goddamn employee on the face of the planet)
