Thread: Oceanika

  1. #321
    [QUOTE=Mary Marine;119393

The only downside is it's a bit big in the foot pocket, so I was struggling to keep it from rubbing against my ankles and giving my blisters. Instead I got a blister AND bruises form how hard I was tensing my feet to keep them in place. Some sock and sock liners stopped the blister from getting worse, but now I have to wait for the bruises to heal. That's a temporary fix though, I need to buy some neoprene socks. Any suggestions? What brands do you guys wear to swim in?[/QUOTE]

As an adult who got a child's large oceanika, I had to cut the foot pockets larger because it was cutting into my skin, brusing, and blistering. Now that it's cut, I still have a near constant bruise, blisters, and pain, but it's just the price for that fin in my opinion. My competitor cuts the back/side of my heels, and hurt the top part of my foot. Different fins fit differently.

    Did you get half socks?

  3. #323
Don't know if you still need socks, but I got these socks for my Merfin and they work wonders. No blisters at all. http://www.amazon.com/Dakine-Fin-Socks/dp/B00067EFJO They were in fact suggested to me by someone on the forum but I can't remember who.

It was Anahita. I was just there, reading the thread you mentioned!

Kazzie I mean Mahina Mermaid has a photo in a blue fabric tail. Can anyone tell me how she attached the fabric to the fin from just looking at the photo?

Its on her fb page. She's sitting on a rock sunning herself.

I was thinking silicone caulk...it resembles some of my caulk tests. Latex probably looks the same.

Ya know, I just wear regular fuzzy microfiber socks with mine...cushy enough to prevent blisters and cheap!

I was told sometime in April would be the release of the adult MerFins.

They're not on the website yet, I need it to finish my purple Magictail!!!

Doesn't really deserve its own thread, but here's a quick clip of swimming in my MerFin! A nice lady at the pool took it on her iPhone for me. First underwater video before.

Awesome! I swam in it on Wednesday! Its so soft and flowy. I even met another MerFin Mermaid and we swam together in a lane, showing each other tricks and racing up and down the lane. Another swimmer even joined our lane, and chatted with us. So much fun!

Why isn't there a review for monofins like the tail reviews?

Got video of me swimming in my oceanika fin! I know I'm not the best swimmer but you can really see it well in quite a few shots.
Now I want my own Mahina fins...I love how they move in the water.
Now the only question is: orange or blue? I love pink for a change, I will choose a different color for my first fins.

    Orange!

Side story: On Wednesday of this week, I had just taken off my tail skin. Some kids came into the Wave Pool, I only had my one piece swimsuit on and my merfin. "Look! Its a real mermaid!" They come closer, little girl says to her little buddies, "See? I told you it was a real mermaid!". After that more kids in the pool, cos its after school learn to swim lessons, more shouts of "Mermaid! Mermaid!" 15 mins later, I left the pool as it had gotten a little bit crowded in there and I didn't want to accidently hit anyone.

The learn to swim kids were in awe! Not that I was there to amuse or anything, at least I hope to inspire some kids, that you can do more with swimming, when they can see what else can be done when you know how to swim and float.

I recently found out that Mahina has made the merfin in adult sizes..... I have one of the original "bigger kids size" that I had to cut and alter to wear, it kept giving me cramps sadly.
I totally wish I didnt cut it as I could of sould it to a younger mer and bought the adult one 😕
My tail uses my Hydra monofin though ☺

I definitely love the flowy look of the merfin and used to get lots of looks and smiles from adults when I swam in it ☺

    Mine is a green ☺

Whenever I leave the pool, I re-curl the fluke tips at the bus stop!

I do this because I overheard one littlest tot telling her Mum, "Look Mummy! Poor mermaid she got squashed by some boats."
