I had a panic attack in the dentist chair while they were pulling out an upper wisdom tooth. I could just imagine that the dentist was kneeling on my chest with the largest dental implement known to man destroying my upper jaw. It didn't help that I used to be a vet tech and I've seen how they pull teeth in animals. It all ended well and I felt foolish for freaking out.

You're all making me glad my wisdom teeth removal was part of oral surgery- one tooth had impacted so badly it had worn a hole in my jaw, and was about to destroy the nerve that would have meant I lost all control of that side of my face. I ended up having to have glass to fill in the hole, which required my being under. Recovery was painful, but worth it. And now I can tell people I have a glass jaw, which is kind of funny to me.

I did mine in twos, too...but I did right side, upper and lower, then left. They punctured my sinus and I could breathe through the tooth hole for a while!

I pulled a muscle this morning turning my daughter for cast maintenance, of all the silly ways. I've been lifting her, trasnferring from wheelchair to bed to couch etc., and I was fine, then I tilt her to check something, and TWANG goes a muscle. Now it's pulling my spine and I feel nauseated, whee!

    Bah.

Of course, I lost the clots in both of them (ouch! Exposed nerves ) and ended up having to get a clove pack in each of them (that stuff is pure magic I swear). But they're out.

The part I hated most was a day or so later, having to brush my icky mouth for like the first time.
Yeah, I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth taken out at the same time, in the chair, just novacaine. They promised to have at least laughing gas for me, then surprised me when I got there that they "were out," so I'd be fully awake and aware of everything the whole time. After a panic attack, then calming down, then extra shots of novacaine because I was not getting numb, and about 4 hours, it was over. Honestly, the worst part was sitting there that long. I really did get numb, and didn't feel anything, and just kept singing songs in my mind to keep it occupied elsewhere. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I freaked out.

Here's a general bitch-out: When people complain about being treated a certain way, such as being made fun of for wearing a tail or heck, anything! And then they turn around and make fun of others for any reason.

If being made fun of hurts you, then why the hell are you doing it to someone else? That really sucks and shows a pretty damn deep lack of self-awareness.

Imagine my panic when I was nearing my 36th birthday...my grandmother always said that getting your wisdom marked the halfway point of your life!

I had all four wisdom teeth removed in one sitting. Nitrous, Novocain, and Demerol.., no worries. I was in no pain by that night and was eating regularly the next day but everyone reacts differently I suppose.

That moment when the Starbucks barista turns to you right in front of your Deaf friend and says. "Oh thank god you know how to sign. I had no idea what she wanted a minute ago."

This always makes me want to say, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you. What was that?"

Seriously, guys, it's called paper and pen. If you don't get it, use it.

Wow, bad barista. D: That's just common sense that you would offer them an alternative way to order and also not be a dick about it.

I understand that people don't always know how to deal with Deaf people, but circumstances like that put me in a really bad situation as it is not considered appropriate in the Deaf community for a hearie to "help" someone communicate unless they have specifically requested that you interpret. So I tend to be stuck in the middle with my friend next to me having no idea she is being talked about as if she is not there and a server/waiter/barista/whatever who has never met Deaf people before and therefore had no knowledge of their strong sense of self reliance and independence--aka, they don't know they have just made a huge Deaf faux pas and so you can't really get upset with them for their ignorance ofDeaf culture.

so what to do? I usually shrug and just say " only a little," even tho I am fully capable of interpreting a coffee order.

I hate crazy customers..... Lady calls the front desk and gets transferred to me. I answer her question, which she apparently didn't like the answer to, so she hung up on me. Before I could even walk away from the phone, she calls back, this time to my phone, and asks where she can file a customer complaint. Smh.
