Thread: My dream became reality!

    My dream became reality!

The past few months have been like a rollercoaster.
A long story short: I have/had cold dystrophy and just finished my rehabilitation therapy to basically learn how to walk again and deal with the pain and weird signals my knee/leg gives me. After being in a wheelchair followed by crutches, I am now proud to say I can walk longer distances with a cane!
The "rollercoaster-ride" won't stop just yet but everything is very much do-able because I have the best support and love from my hubby and family to keep me going!

Therapy taught me that I will probably never be able to return to my previous job.. And I won't be able to swim without flippers because I can't make that movement with my knee. But therapy has also taught me that I should just try things out as I go. Which I did with the flippers
I've always loved swimming, but now I love being in the water even more.. The weight of my body is off my leg and the flippers help me swim through the water without troubling my knee too much. I've even tried the "dolphin swim" and I was happy as ever noticing I managed!

Now my dream has come true!
My hubby bought a Magictail for me to start mermaiding!
Last week he decided I should have one and follow my dream.. I can't thank him enough, and even now I still have a loss of words.
The tail arived yesterday, a lot sooner then we both expected! It was wrapped up nicely and the tail is alot heavier then I thought!
Ofcourse I had to put it on right then and there, a little struggle and a moment of self-realisation that I have gained weight in the 1½ years of hardly any movement.
But there was my tail.. and me wearing it!! I will lose the weight eventually since I am able to move alot more now and the frequent swimming will help loads!

I will go to the pool in about two hours and try it out for the first time and post my first swimming as a Mer experience when I get home.
I'm excited like a little girl on christmasmorning!! ^-^

Glad to hear you cope well. Grats on the tail!

Swimming is indeed one of the few sports that are great for rehab.
And mermaiding does wonders for the psyche!

    You go girl!

Tired and back on dry land but I had the time of my life!
The lifeguard at the pool looked at me with a very confused look when I was putting the tail on and we explained him that it might look a bit weird, and that it will become a whole lot weirder :P
When I got into the water it was the first time that I had my legs "strapped together" so it was quite an experience, but it was very easy to swim in it!
The faces of people and specially of kids whispering: "Look a mermaid!" "She has a tail... - No that's a fin!"
Swimming itself.. The way you feel it moves in the water is an amazing feel and the colours (I picked Sirene) are absolutely beautiful under water!
My breathing wasn't too much of a problem, tho I have to say I'm VERY glad I quit smoking back in january or I'm sure it would have been worse :P

My hubby being my "bodyguard", we had alot of fun in the water today and I'm ready for a nap now lol
We'll go again soon and keep all this exercise up!
