Do you believe that you maybe a mermaid/merman in a previous life?

Have you ever thought that you might've been a mermaid/merman in a previous life? And have you ever thought that you might be one in this life? I'm just asking because I believe that. I'm just wondering if anyone else believes in that too.

The concept of past lives is an interesting one, but I think it has some flaws.
    1. The Otherkin concept really hasn't gone anywhere since its initial emergence. If anything, it is one of the less well known groups out there, and it is plagued by would-be poseurs and a dependence on certain limitations (possibly derived from linguistic strictures).
    2. The concept of past lives is largely meant in most religious philosophies that the spirit continues to become more enlightened, or else is to suffer from breaking its allotted position in life (not necessarily sinning or being "evil," but not doing what you were supposed to). Therefore, looking to a past life is something like saying "I don't like being a human, I think I want to devolve back to a neanderthal or a rat" or, alternatively "gosh darnit, I used to be a cosmic being, now look at me!" Neither attitude is particularly empowering or devoted.
    3. The idea that some cosmic mistake trapped one spirit in a human body when that spirit was meant to be something else takes an extremely hubristic attitude. That said, it is an attitude taken by some of the transgendered, so I suppose I can rationalize it as "having a body that doesn't accurately portray the soul within" (which describes basically EVERYONE). But there comes a great deal of self worth from understanding and exploring and accepting who you personally are, physical, mental, and spiritual limitations included, than in looking to some halcyon past life when things fit properly.
    4. According to most beliefs of past lives, including that of ancient Rome, as related in the Aeneid, the spirits of the dead need to forget their lives (possibly by drinking the waters of the River Lethe) in order to return to life. The slate has been wiped clean, and it's time to write something new on it, not try to trace the faded chalk dust of the past. There's nothing you can build on or do with whatever fragments of memories of a past life remain.
    5. A lot of people seem to think that if you lived a past life, then you have some special benefits of that quality... almost like you've inherited it. I really think that trying to stick inherited traits to something as personal and innate as your soul or lifeforce is both limiting (to you) and draws rather too much from similar ideas involved in Eugenics (which, among other things, is due to the feeling that one's caste and heritage determines one's ability and social status and personality, gives us the ideas of divine right and manifest destiny, and the terrors that lead to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany). Each of us is more than the sum of our heritage, more than our past, and, in this case, more than our past lives, and each of us, though fully human in all senses, can become a merman or mermaid through our efforts and connection with the waters.

That's an interesting point you've made. It may be true that there maybe some flaws in this belief. And you maybe right about them. But other religions and beliefs has it's flaws too. So my belief is not a perfect one like every other belief. I didn't expect mine to be perfect.
It's all part of answering the important questions in life. And we all have different answers.

Yes! I definately believe I was a mermaid in a past life. I have always felt like a fish out of water and have always struggled to "fit in". So yep, I do.
