Thread: B!TC# IT OUT!

Usually cash registers do the math for you. I also think some of how they teach basic math is too complex. For example I remember having to memorize all the number you get when you do 8 times 1 to 10. However 8*6 is much easyer if you do 3*2*2*2*2. I get 48 much faster if you break each number into small primes that are easyer to work with.

And going to pay for things scared the crap outta me too. Glad we can relate!
I am bad at math too. I am an artist so my brain is better at artistic things and not so good at math. In high school my Mom hired my math teacher to tutor me to help me pass a standardized test. I kept failing it and even after my math teacher's tutoring I failed the test again so he gave me a huge math workbook to work out of and I practiced like mad and I finally passed. Math in college was much better. The teachers are better at teaching and the homework is online so you know instantly if you got the question wrong or right and you can keep re-doing it until you get it right and it even gives you hints on how to solve it.

That is really good to know that cash registers do the work for you. The job I really want is to work at one of the local plant nurseries. The one that sells koi and plants would be fun to work at.

I failed Vegie Maths in high school many years ago too! Since then I've never ever taken on Accounting work, even though I know nowadays, the software does the calculations for you. Its just that when I see numbers, I get very confused which page or tab they go into, and am terrified of messing it up (and getting booted out before lunch time), that I stay away from any type of number crunching jobs! Even the ones that use cash registers.

I'm kind of panicking because I haven't seen my plecostamus all day and I think one of my rasboras is dead. my betta certainly didn't attack the rasbora because it looks perfectly fine, just a little dead. he's almost scared of them. this is stressful I hope it isn't dead

I have been working on a digital painting on Gimp for the past week. Pretty much all of my spare time has been devoted to this project, I have placed hours into this. Well, I had just finished the last base of the entire painting last night, all that was left to do was the shading and a few color details I wanted to change... And then at 3AM last night my computer decided it needed to update. Since I was asleep I couldn't tell it to postpone till I could save my work. It forced a shutdown, and along with losing a whole page to the school research paper I was working on, I lost my painting. I am so upset right now I feel like crying and screaming and throwing my whole computer out the window. Just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach. I have tried everything to recover it but nothing is working

That's a hard lesson everyone learns...save early, save often. Never trust your machine to do anything good for you. But at least now you'll be able to recreate it faster because you've already done it once. Good luck!

x 2 what Pearlie Mae said. Get into that habit of saving A LOT. Every time you add more to your art and pause to move to a new area, save before adding more. Maybe set your phone onto a timer so that every 10 min. or 5 min. it goes off telling you to save your work. In multimedia class in High School the computer power switch was on the floor under the desk. Each power switch was the switch for all computers in that row. Well, sometimes someone would move their foot and accidently turn off power to the computers and people would freak out because they hadn't saved. That is how we all got into saving often because you never know when the power will go out, when someone will accidently turn off the computer, when you thought your laptop was plugged in but it wasn't and it loses charge, the program could crash, etc.

I wish you luck with re-doing everything. Often when I lose work I get very upset, but when I go to re-do it, it usually turns out better than the first version that I lost.

Don't worry too much about your pleco, I'm sure he's fine! I had a bristlenose who used to find new places to hide constantly, especially for the first six months that I owned him-- Even now I'm nursing a baby albino longfin bristlenose who I sometimes don't see for days at a time because he'll be hiding away in one of the rocks or behind the filter in his tank. My cousin had a common pleco that she had just assumed was dead because she didn't see it in almost a year, even when she was moving around rocks and driftwood in the tank. She later found out as she was moving everything to an upgraded tank that he was hiding in a nook inside a piece of driftwood most of the time and would change color to match the wood any time she moved it and looked inside.

Plecos are surprisingly sneaky little bastards, so don't worry too much. If you're super concerned, I'd recommend carefully removing the decorations one by one and seeing if the pleco shows up-- And make sure the double-check the inside of any hides/driftwood/etc. you might have in there, and shine a flashlight in there if you need to! My bristlenose almost made it a point to dart inside his favorite fake tree every time I was doing tank cleanings and then cling onto the inside of the damn thing, even once it was completely removed from the water and set out on a towel. Not exactly a fun time going "Wait where the hell did Alduin go" and then suddenly seeing him flop across a table at you, I can tell you that.

I'd also recommend doing water tests on your tank to see what may have happened to your Rasbora-- check for an increase specifically in pH, nitrites and nitrates, because those can sometimes spike and cause stress in fish, which can kill them.

thank you! I've seen traces of my pleco at a time, so I'm not really worried at this point. I wish he was more like my snails! As for the rasbora, that seems to be what happened. I'll check later today, before I go and put new fish in! I may go to petco again today and buy another rasbora who hopefully won't be bullied by the other two since they've bonded a lot (they're playing with my bubbler right now!) I'm hoping to get a few neon tetras too, but I'm still not sure if I want to go that route.

Ctrl+S is a life saver. I save constantly, everytime I make headway in a drawing: ctrl+S and I don't even have to move my pen from the drawing to save.

I was really excited for a thread for once but I'm worried
It's not that I'm not happy that a conversation is going on but I'm a little peeved that it's becoming unrelated to the original topic...pleasepleaseplease let me stop this derailing and put things back on track. I will not let this topic change!
---------end of my vague complaining for the day (hopefully)----------

No one said you can't post something? I'm telling her how to solve her issue she's referencing?

I'm getting really frustrated with myself... Over the last few months my anxiety and gender dysphoria has been getting more difficult to deal with. Because of it I haven't been able to go swimming lately, I end up having really bad panic attacks.. my last swim ended up with me having trouble breathing after I'd just resurfaced and definitely needed to breathe. Being able to swim usually is very calming for me, but it's turned into something tricky because I usually bind my chest to feel comfortable around people (and even now it's gotten to a point where I can't bind for more than an hour before my ribs hurt, so I can't even do that all that often..) and I've been unable to do that for swimming, so I feel really anxious about swimming now.
That turned into more of a rant than I meant it to... bleh. I'm not sure what to do. Medication for anxiety hasn't worked for me before, and I don't have enough money to go on medication that may not work. I really wish there was a place I could swim alone around here, but there isn't.
