    Mermaid Sabie's Fabric Tail!!

    Hii!!
Soo excited that I finally get to start a thread about my own future tail! I can already tell this is going to be a trial and error kind of tail because I've only got 2 weeks to make it! We're going to my Aunts wedding in Hawaii and I really want to bring it!
This is my "design" that I'm following a bit

This was done before I recieved my fabric, which is NOT as green blue as the pic but a much brighter blue.

Beautiful design! Have you checked out the tutorials? I definitely recommend the second one, Little Orca is super helpful Over here as well.

These are my monofins, I'll be using the cut one for this tail. I'm planning on making the monofin removable so that I can make different fabric "skins" so I can have ALL THE COLOURS!!

I got these monofins from Special Fins, before buying from them check out this thread http://mernetwork.com/index/showthre...onofin-crack-(
I couldn't be happier about how my story ended with them but there was a lot of worry along the way... Note to self always look at a company's FB and click the "POSTS TO PAGE" so you can see not what the company has posted, but comments that customers/ other FB users have left on their page.

Yes! I have been stalking everyone's beautiful tails for quite a while, Little Orca's painting tutorial is what I based my future fluke paint job on. She makes it seem so easy <3
I'm really not trying to push my creative side too much right now because I'm worried it won't get done in time for Hawaii! I have so many ideas tho, so I'm sure once I get back I'll be adding things to it

So I made a lot of progress this weekend! Almost done actually
This is my pattern, I tried 2 different ways and got different sized patterns so I was really nervous

I went with just tracing myself onto paper and then adding seam allowance, worked out great!

Fits good! I've still got to sew the waistband
And I'm going to try putting snaps on the bottom of the monofin

It's a very similar colour to my tail until I finish painting other colors and scales of course ^.^ looking good!

I've been reading around on some other peoples threads and now I'm a bit worried! I totally didn't even think that the fabric paint might not stick to the hologram print on my tail! So now I'm not sure what to do, I don't really want to leave the fluke as it is, it needs something.....
So now I'm debating just getting the paint and trying it out and having it probably just come off the first time I swim
    OR
sew different fabric where the fluke is and paint that
    Opinions?

Why not do a few samples using different kinds of paint and techniques? Just use the scrap fabric from the tail and whatever paints you're considering

So painting is pretty much a no. I don't like this Tulip brand at all and I can't find a darker blue anywhere
If I wasn't in a time crunch I would have ordered Lumiere paints
Hubby came up with an idea to still get some detail in the fluke so now I've got to work the logistics of that.....

Good luck! I hope it works out how you want!

So now my plan is to cut out fabric lines instead of painting then and to use the no sew glue since sewing thin lines sounds a bit difficult
This is the fabric I found, I liked it because it still has shine to it and everything else I was looking at was very matte
I'm hoping it contrasts enough to stand out
If not at least it was on sale

Progress! Took some time to decide how many spines(?) to make and I think 3 looks good half done making the pattern

Tomorrow I'll get some no sew glue and test it on the 2 fabrics
While that sets and soaks I'll start my top!!!

Tried to upload a video of my glue test in water but it wouldn't load, maybe a prob with trying to do it from tapatalk?
Anyways it looks like it's working out and I LOOVE how my fabric looks in the water

Gunna soak that overnight and in the meantime I'm thinking I'll just recover a swimsuit top that I like the fit of.
Main bikini part I'm thinking scales and then my darker fabric on the ties. Not sure if I can switch up the actual ties that go around the neck so they might have to stay black.... Hmmmmm.......

Halfway done! Would've been done a long time ago if my sewing machine didn't decide to revolt. Got a pin stuck in it, broke the needle and been having constant bobbin issues.
So calling it a night, pleased with the results so far!!!

Uh! That is the worst! I hope it's an easy fix for your machine. The top looks super cute!
