haha! omg yeah i saw that and had to a double take! then i got fascinated with the swirly tail.... i wanna swirly tail *pouts* i think i might play with my next fabric one and swirl pearls and rhinestones around the entirety.... might as well have some fun with the little bit i can afford. i'd kill for space and talent to make my own or the funds to buy one..... speaking of, have any of you bought these gorgeous tails from here? https://www.etsy.com/listing/2455715...=sr_gallery_21 she says "this is an example of a tail i can make for you" for the price if she was that good, i'd jump at it, but i have a feeling that it's possibly a scam since i messaged her and have yet to see any "examples of her work" just letting all my fellow mers know that this is out there for the warning. I saw the post where the mermaid premiered the tail on here. so i recognized it immediately.. if it is the same mermaid, i'd love to know why she's got two shops lol

Wow Pearliemae - or should I call you Jolene Oldham - congratulations go out to you for being in one of those big slide shows we so enjoy! In the New York Times, too, no less....The best I've done is a photo and blurb in the Italian Elle Magazine; you are impressive in your presence as well as your knowledge of Splash!​ tail construction!

Yeah, I'd be wary of this. Better yet, I'd just report it outright.

"This is an example of a tail I can make for you" is a major red flag. Only one picture of this tail, no pictures of any others, she doesn't even list materials or state anywhere that she actually made the tail posted in the listing. Every time I've seen this line used, it's been on costume listings using photos of other people's works because A) the person hasn't actually made their own tail yet but is still somehow convinced that they can already make a tail like a pro, which means any sucker stunned enough to take the risk is either going to get a shoddy quality item that looks nothing as advertised, or lose their money when the maker realizes "oh crap, this is harder than I thought," gets overwhelmed and disappears, or B) is outright scamming.

No materials listed-- Are they fabric tails? Neoprene? Silicone? Latex? Alex Plus? They don't mention materials anywhere, which is a major risk. And THEN you get to the part in the description saying "You choose the materials." What? So if I message her wanting a dragonskin silicone tail, she can make that for me (and for $400 CAD??????)? Does this person even have experience with any of these materials? And if she does, why does she have no photos of anything showing what she's capable of doing with these materials?

Her other listings are resale items, save for a pair of pants and a dress that both look like they were sewn by an 8th grade Home Ec student and another dress that's literally just a drawing in the preview photo. Everything else is mass-produced, licensed merch that she's just reselling.

Also interesting: She can post pictures of the pants and dress she actually made, but she can't post pictures of any mermaid tails she's made.

So many red flags. I really hope nobody actually tried to order from her.

I hang out with Thom Shouse periodically, (he was a major part of the splash tail team) and what he's told me validates pearlie's post She always says it took 3 (5?) hours to get in the tail every time etc etc but turns out that was only the first time, and Deryl Hannah likes to dramatize the process a little. but yeah they left her in it at lunch to save time
