The Happy Thread!

So I just had a really awesome moment tonight - I wore a Doctor Who shirt and my mermaid scales (from Pearlie Mae's etsy) to rehearsal and some of the kids got super excited (I'm the maid in the party scene). A couple of them came up to me to get a closer look at the necklace and were amazed when I told them they were mermaid scales and that I know people who are mermaids. I did tell them that the scales were made of silicone but that only seemed to make them more interested. It made me so happy to seem them that excited, and it was the first time the kids warmed up enough to really talk to me so that made it even more special! I used to hate being stuck as the maid but I'm slowly getting to love it and have more fun (this is my 3rd or 4th time in the role, but the first year I'm really enjoying it instead of longing for a different one). Then this happens and can I keep doing this again? Also made me even more excited for when I someday have a beautiful tail and can make more special moments like tonight.

Also, Sabrina - good luck with the JLPT! If you ever want to practice Japanese, let me know. I've studied abroad in Japan twice and am still continuing to study the language so I'd be more than happy to help if you have any questions too.

I've found that theatre kids are always more accepting! Also, what show are you doing? I was also recently a maid in the party scene in Jekyll and Hyde.

I'm doing the Nutcracker with my local rec center's ballet school. I've been doing it for years (various parts) but it never seems to really feel like Christmas is coming until the day of the performance.

Just had a meeting with my physiatrist (the person who writes prescriptions for the other therapists (read: jerks) and I feel like I was successful in making it clear that I despise my current living situation. Keep those fins crossed that the next therapist I have to convince (read: person with the greeeeat idea to move me here) will do her job. If she doesn't I will simply fire her and get myself... some other advocate. Anyways pretty proud that I stood up for myself. So... I win!

Okay so this is really small but I'm really happy that I just scored a ton of organic farm raised meat and veggies for $22. I got Cod, Lamb, Chicken, Steak, Bell peppers, tomatoes, and collard greens. Like I said, it's a small victory, but when you've been eating poptarts for the past 2 weeks because you can't afford anything else it's a milestone haha. I feel like I'm getting better at adulting.

I'm screaming on the inside! My next paycheck is going to be about $430!!!!!!!! We got double pay for working on Thanksgiving, just that paycheck alone could buy the two 2 gallon sets of silicone I need to make my tail. I'm so extremely happy and I don't know how to act because nobody at work except one girl in my department knows about me being a mermaid.

This video makes me all sorts of delighted — mostly because stingrays are my BFFs, and because Melissa visited my island! I honestly cannot believe I missed that! Guess that's what happens when you don't live in town to hear the "buzz." But her videos from her time here are awesome!

Just went to a new psychologist this morning and was extremely nervous, but when I stepped into his office I started to think it might turn out okay. He has a giant fish tank (potentially ~60 gallons, judged by sight) with crystal clear water, a stunning plant landscape, and a small school of blue/green fantail guppies. His walls had large pictures of seascapes, underwater shots, coral reefs, etc. He even had his tiny puppy (likely a therapy dog in training) in a corner on a fluffy pet bed (snoozing soundly). Then, coming back out the waiting room after the appointment I noticed that the ocean-theme continued to some of the pictures on the wall there and to the bookcase (one of the items was a swimming dolphin mobile).
I'm not sure yet how well things'll work out as far as treatment goes as today was just introductions and such, but I have a better feeling about it than I did. It also helps that he openly admitted to having a low opinion of the same place I had tried (and hated) two years ago, which made me feel a bit better about my reaction.
Also felt very appropriate since I wore my favorite seahorse shirt today
