Looking for the perfect name (help?)

    Hello!

I am looking for a mermaid name and came across those:

What would be a good mermaid name?

    Mermaid Calypso

    Mermaid Morgaine

    Mermaid Melusina

Although there is already a mermaid named Khaleesi Calypso in California already, I like the name very much.

    Do you have other ideas?

    Thanks for your opinion!

I like Mermaid Morgaine, it sounds very old world and medieval like Morgana. Also sounds a bit magical.

There is a merman calypso, and I think a mermaid Calypso in Cali (I might be wrong) and wasn't there a Muslinah somewhere? Although these names can be used by multiple people in a small merworld it's easier to have a unique name that is different from another performing mermaid to avoid confusion. just my two cents. Also, baby name lists are super useful especially old gaelic and european and greek ones. Also root words in latin can be interestingly made into names, look up fairy name generators to help with random ideas. Good luck!

    Thank you for your help!

I did some further research. Pls feel free to alter and add names. I will probably put "Mermaid" in front of the actual name:

Calypso (greek Nereid who detained Odysseus)

    Morgaine ("bright sea")

    Melusina (mermaid in arthurian legend)

    Maera/Maira (greek nereid)

Ninianne/Nymue/Viviane (lady of the lake in Arthurian legend)

Melaina (greek nymph of the springs, "the black")

Metope (river nymph in Greek mythology)

Moana (maori, hawaiian, "ocean, wide expanse of water, deep sea")

Aphrodite (born out of sea foam)

Nerthus (Goddess of sacred lakes and springs)

    Amphitrite (Goddess of the ocean)

Marnoba (from Abnoba, godess of rivers and forests)

Merisane (from Belisama, goddess of lakes and rivers)

We had a Melusina on the forums I think, she may have changed her name? She's not very active as of late, either. The search bar is the greatest way to check.

I understand your troubles though--I've been on the forum for a few years now and still can't decide what I want to go by, lol.

I've actually got Morgaine as my current top pick as well, but I still vote for that one. It's just a really gorgeous mermaid name! Maera and Moana are beautiful too. If you don't mind, I'd love to add whatever you don't end up choosing to my list, as I'm still searching for names

I'm partial to the name Morgaine.

I'm in the same boat... still deepblue, even had a different username for awhile, and back to this, but I want to be so so certain of choosing a Mermaid Moniker, I've yet to. I want it to 'come to me' so to speak. lol And I think it has, but I'm waiting to be sure.

I still love Morgaine the best.
Remember that if you are planning (idk if you are or not) on becomming a professional mermaid, make sure to use a name that is easy to pronounce for everyone :-)

Variants of Mélusine and Morgan(a)/Morgaine are popular mermaid names.

We have several on the forum and I work with a couple mers with these names, which is why I opted for a less widespread one myself.

If you don't plan on selling tails/going professional etc, it shouldn't matter too much though.

I was curious of how many users on Mernetwork had similar names (mainly cause I really love Morgaine and it seems like many others like it as well) so I checked the member map and there's three members: Morganna, MermaidMorgana, and MermaidMorgayne. MermaidMorgayne's username is the most similar, but after checking her profile, it seems like her account is inactive and she hasn't been on since Feb 2014.

Basically, if you love the name and want to use it, I'd say go for it! I wouldn't let others stop you from picking the name you feel reflects you best.

I second what Julianne just said :-)

Yes, I'd like to do it professionally. I will choose Morgaine/Morgayn/Morgain. What would the easiest be for people to pronounce? Are there other versions too? Thx for your help! @PetLoverSpy: Of course, I don't mind!
