I'm probably not going to use the opal scales. I was testing the idea for my friend (on here as MerSeakilling.) who wants an opal-inspired tail.

Today I'm working on just pulling as many scales as possible today and getting this tail moving. I just pulled a batch of rose gold, copper and brass and I'm waiting on a batch of gold with gold leaf. I'm trying something with the gold leaf, one with large pieces placed in and another with the gold mixed in. The mixed pieces have an interesting Goldschlager (Yes, the alcohol) look.
I'm hoping that the gold flake, unlike the cellophane will be to delicate inside the silicone and it'll rip apart rather than cut itself out of the scales.

gorgeous of course
I would think that gold leaf would be fine inside your scales. I've seen people put delicate items such as confetti, sprinkles, and even pompoms inside silicone with good results because those items can't cut their way out. You may want to do a 'stress test' on one scale to see if any bits cut through. Can't wait to see all those gorgeous scales come together![]()
The gold leaf won't cut through, but it can act as a release. If the silicone pulls away and creates a pocket, it can weaken the silicone, making it prone to tearing. And if water gets in, it can lead to mold damage.

Here's the 3 kinds of gold scales, I'm making.
I think the crumbly Goldschlager scales look the best but I'll still probably do a mix of both. I know the gold won't cut its way out but I am seriously worried about mold.

If you use them kinda sparingly it should be ok i think.
for the opal: What IFFFF you used like those rainbow/opal-ish cellophane sheets and like ran it through the paper shredder or cut in into small bits and then embedded them into the silicone... like making your own glitter kinda...
if it was small like my glitters I have I do not think it would be that big of a deal.
Yeah but then you lose the quartz-shape inside. Meh, I'm not worrying about it now because it's not my tail. #notmytailnotmyproblem

Yeah, not your problem to freak out over.
Hey! Shitty infomercial time! Except not. Because this is awesome. Except that I haven't made more art for it yet so you get the same banner.
Yknow how I've been awkwardly hinting at something big and fishy I've been planning/a part of?
Holy crap guys, we announced it.

I made some opal scales almost two years ago, and they still hold up (I've been trying to kill them just to see how durable they are...). The opal 'glitter' is super flimsy. I wish I bought more when I had the chance because now I can't find it.
PS: ignore the cat hairs.

You should do some test pulls Selkish, I think it would be totally worth it to have something like that.
