Mermaid Tail Submitted At a Art Gallery

So this morning I went to a local art gallery, we got to talking to a lady who works there and also has art in some of the shows. She said that around summer time that have a gallery show with art from high schoolers and young artists. My mom said if I can get my silicone tail finished that I should enter it as a live work of art or something. Has anyone put their handmade tails into a art show/gallery? Any tips or advice?

I've never entered a tail, but, from past experience with my art, I would suggest designing the tail like you want to, first and foremost. Then, if it's aesthetically pleasing (as I'm sure it will be!) enter it. Don't ever change your art for someone else, especially with something this expensive and personal. (trust me, changing anything about your art for someone else might take the fun out it)

That being said, I would talk to the gallery about their policies on "living art", and if that's not an option discuss other forms of display, perhaps with a mannequin? Depending on the duration of the show you wouldn't want to sit there 8 hrs a day for several weeks, so I would visit the possibility of making a mannequin. (Lots of stores will give you a broken one, and if one is broken below the waist then it wouldn't be an issue for your display.)
Good luck!! This is very exciting and I hope you can find a way to display it!

I know Tigg had her Starry Night tail in an art gallery. Sounds like a super neat idea. And it would be cool to have a tail honored for the art aspect and the level of difficulty it required to make.

I was thinking of using a mannequin. I was probably going to just sit for a few hours the first day or two then just put the tail onto a mannequin. Thanks for the responses!
