Leomar they are Mertailer tails but I actually had them repainted and redone by Matt at MerrowFins who's now my company tail maker. oh, the Octo top is a merbellas of course and the treasure chest is one of from my costume line.

My first attempt at painting a tail. I chose spandex that was too thin, and quickly developed some holes. The blue and dark blue on the dorsal side are veratex fabric paint. The green on the ventral side is Prismacolor marker, and was not very successful. I'll not be using that for the next trial. The monofin is my Lunocet.

Thank you both so much! I'm going to get some 2 mm neoprene, and redo it with that. I hope the neoprene will make swimming in the cold So Cal ocean a bit more comfortable.

    Scale Maile Tail

I made a Little Mermaid tail out of anodized aluminum scales. She's about 8,000 small scales and is only the first of many I plan to create

Is it swimmable? Would be so cool if it was.

I really don't know yet. It's lighter than a silicone tail, but I haven't had the chance to get her in the water. That would be amazing if it was

Pin a few to your swimsuit and take it for test swims. Then you'll definitely know if its swimmable.

Silicone has about the same density as water, so a 30 pound silicone tail becomes weightless in water.
Aluminum had a density that is 2.7 times that of water. So a 27 pound aluminum tail would weigh 17 pounds in water.

You may find you sink like a rock. Be careful!

Adding something that floats could solve the issue. For example, wear the lower half of a neoprene wet suit under the tail.

    THANK YOU
I struggled to find the density of aluminum and I kind of figured it would be more of a "sinking and flailing" motion as apposed to "graceful swimming"
I will certainly give the wet suit idea a try, thank you so much!

Wow! Such a creative idea and I love the look of it, it is so shiny!! Just looking at your fluke, I'm not an expert but you may find that it doesn't have much push because you have cut so much into the middle of the monofin. I think that is where most of the power comes from, but it's still a really cool design and definitely a great land tail!

    Thank you very much!
The fluke is made out of aluminum as well and not put together nearly well enough for me to want to put it anywhere near water. I think the poor thing would fall apart. There's no monofin at all in it, I just wanted it to look similar to Ariel's fluke shape (which is super weird) and still have a little room to put my feet in it.
