    Red face Pacific Greetings

    Hello,

Nice to meet everyone. Joined just now from Vancouver, BC. I could have used this community a month ago! I was tasked with making a display window for my store here which needed a merman's tail several months ago. This week everything's finally coming together and I'm pretty excited about owning my own custom made tail though it's construction is a bit unorthodox now that I'm seeing so many helpful tutorials with alternatives.

I could have gone the easy route with this task and made a prop but part of me said I needed to make it, and it needed to function in the water. My tail is a neoprene tail (got that part right at least!) with scales individually sewn in. I'm painting it and picking up my monofin this weekend (fingers crossed) and hopefully I can hit the beach by next week before it goes on display!

I used to live near Crystal River, FL and swam quite a bit around that time. I grew up around Weeki Wachee Mermaid Springs and it's hard not to fall in love with the community and craft after seeing it first hand. I'm originally from Michigan and the Great Lakes to boot so it's always been a must to be near the water, but not always in it. Sadly I've got a fear of the deep dark blue so it's been awhile since I've wandered into open ocean.

Welcome it is always good to have another Merman! A lot of mers have a fear of deep, dark water so you are not alone.

Thanks everyone! I've been looking around and just previewing a lot of information. I'm going to need to learn how to swim like a dolphin, that'll be fun. Looks like there's quite a bit to know!
