"Smooth" Skin Texture for Silicone Tail?????

SO...

I am in the process of getting materials for my FIRST EVA SILICONE TAIL! *squee*

I am also making a video to share with MerNetwork asking for help so I don't have to type a billion things...

BUT

Before I reveal the whole plan I have A.) A consultation lined up with someone who dun did dis befo & B.) A QUESTION: Are there any threads here about making a "smooth" texture" with silicone?

FOR EXAMPLE: Instead of pouring over a "scale sheet" mold, has anyone here ever poured like.... just a flat surface sheet of silicone and are there tuts and pics of this? Like if I wanted to make a tail, backed with powermesh and poured in a sheet to look smooth (then seal the sides together) would it work? WOULD IT BE WEIRD??? (Ok well... I like weird nvm...)

I am excited about starting this project TOO MUCH! Its almost my birthday and Im already getting a couple things FOR this project FOR MY BDAY SO WAITING IS KILLING MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE UGH.

Couple that with the fact that I cant really draw - I can do alot of things but sketching ISNT one of those things so getting my idea across is hard

Anyway... Any information would be greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for a video (maybe sometime next week!) hopefully detailing the whole plan.

Merman Blix has a silicone tail that doesn't have scales:

The Mertailor made a silicone orca tail but I don't think it is skin smooth - It looks slightly textured:

The main problem you are going to run into is seaming your tail. Seams can be easier to hide when you are working with scales but when you have a very smooth tail, the seams will be very noticeable if you are not careful. I once read a tip on here saying that you can put mixed silicone in the fridge for a short bit to make it less runny. This will make it easier to seam the tail because the silicone won't be too runny.

Thank you so much! I have a plan for... "incorporating" the seams into my design so they'll be less obvious but I'm just really set on the "smooth" idea. Giving it a little texture might be good though. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Hehehhehe these pic are great

you could avoid potential seam issues with fins if you wanted to put some type of fins down the side like this.

I do have a plan to put fins in the seams to an extent... I was going to film sooner I just - People are psycho on the internet right now - I don't film when Im not feelin it BUT Im already getting back to "tfw" you've been on MerNetwork creepin for hours and your face hurts from smiling...

This may be out of your league (not saying you CAN'T do it) but you could avoid any major seaming problems if you sculpt on top of your leg double you could do the tail in one piece with a 2 sided mold for front and back, I'll leave some pictures below.

Yassss! I've contemplated sculpting over the body cast I have but I think I'd have to make a new one for that. It's possible, it would just take more time... I love the Thailand merman stuff! Lurv!
