    Mertailor Eco Tail or FinFun?

    Hello!
    ,
    Since the Mertailor's Eco Tails are currently on sale ($60) , I'm now debating on a Eco tail or a FinFun tail. It's going to be my first ever tail , and
    I'm not sure which is better . Haha I'm playing the safe route and not jumping for a FinFolk Mythic Tail just yet .(I will own one one day. And when that day comes I shall throw a grand party lol &#128514 I think Erics tails are very nice appearance wise while FinFuns being more targeted towards swimming . I may be wrong though! I won't be doing a *whole* lot of swimming since its still cold where I live.

    So , what's your opinion on Eco Tails? What about FinFun?
    What's better for a first timer?
    Thank you in advance!
    (And admins , feel free to delete this thread if there's something wrong!)

    If it's your first tail I'd go with Finfun over a Mertailor Eco tail. The eco tails are sewn shut at the bottom and finfun tails aren't. If you'd like to consider a third option I suggest looking into Suntail Mermaid Tails. They are open at the bottom as well and based on other mers their skins and monofins are interchangeable with Finfun.

    So I had ordered a Mahina Merfin and some socks- but then saw this post and rechecked Suntails prices today- and low and behold it's fallen into my price range! So.... Now I'm getting a Suntails Tail instead! EEEEEEEEK!!!

    Okay, okay so here's my advice- If this is going to be your first time swimming in a tail/monofin, many tail manufacturers recommend starting with just the monofin. (I mean order the set if you want a tail, but when you hit the pool the first couple times, try just the monofin out) The sensation of having your feet stuck together in the water can be kind of funky the first time or two. Once you gain some confidence with the monofin then it's okay to put on the tail skin. This goes for whichever tail you decide on! The only reason I'd recommend Fin Fun or Sun Tails over the Eco Tails- without much swimming experience in any of them, is the fact that the bottom of the tail is open on the first two. This is a good feature for a first tail to have, because it gives a quick "escape" option. Best fishes lovely and good luck deciding!

    P.s. When someday comes and you get a Finfolk Mythic Tail- THROW A HUGE FINTASTIC PARTY! Haha. It would definitely be worthy of celebration!

    I love Mertailors prints most! However, I am not a fan of the monofin. I prefer Finfun even over Suntail monofins, but the feel the skins are interchangable. If you decide to make your own tails or want to get more 'skin's you would have to stick with only mertailor ones, b/c the fluke isnt the same design as fin fun. Hope this makes sense.

    hmmm...if the eco tails are sewn together at the bottom, then I wonder what is looks like without a fin? Is the shaping of the tail portrude like the monofin, or is it only like that while on the fin b/c its stretched over? That would make a difference and possible would be used w/ a different monofin. ? anyone know?

    I'd totally suggest getting a Suntails or FinFun first. You'll have more options to upgrade your tailskin later as they are cross compatible with both and Magictail and Delfina tailskins.

    Question for those that have the Finfun monofin. Is it more of a pool only fin or can it be used in the ocean too? I know the Suntail monofin is sea worthy but I wasn't sure about Finfun's.

    Yeah definitely not. It just doesn't have as much power as other freediving worthy monofins. I've used mine twice in a slow moving river and it was not the best idea. Stick with pools or lakes.

    I'd say you could even grab one from Mermaid Kat's shop, you'll have the option to have an open fluke as well if you buy the skin separetely.

    I have a FinFun tail myself, although, I font swim in it as often as I'd like, but it is a great tail to swim in. Very comfortable, and it looks great. I haven't swam in Eco Tails yet, and I haven't heard of them before. But this is your tail, I would check reviews and pricing before buying.

    @steampunkmermaid01 ,
    Eeekk!!! So excited for you!!! be sure and and post pictures!!
    I am definitely practicing with the monofin first! Don't want to spend a lot of money and then back out the first time I swim . That's just horrible.
    P.S YES! Absolutely! Everyb Mer will be invited ;D

    I understand where all of you are coming from with the open fluke. It's a great feature , but since I'll mainly be using my tail for dry events and photos , I don't think it would be much of a difference. But maybe one day I'll be able to own both FinFun and a Eco tail , Eco for the land and FinFun for the water.

    @shimmygoddess
    Makes perfect sense! I also wondered that...hm. I imagine if it's sewn at the bottom than you could insert another monofin. But I think it is sewn in the monofins shape , since everyone says that you can't change monofins. .-.

    @mermaidsummerlily
    I've never heard of Kat , I'll check her out! Thank you for suggesting her :3

    Thank you all for commenting , but it looks like the odds are stacked in the Mertailors favor , simply because design , and since I won't be swimming for a very long time.
    Speaking of Mertailor , I measured myself earlier 3-4 times and according to his size chart my waist fits a adult women's XS , but my length fits a adult woman's Medium. So confused :/ Any suggestion on sizing?

    Well , after scouring the internet for reviews , I noticed that the fluke bubbles up under/in water? Will this affect swimming at all? I looked at pictures and I couldn't see bubbling , so ..? I know another Mer here put in a different monofin and added drainage holes , and I'm hoping I don't have to do that , as you can't trust me with sharp tools.
    But if im going to order , its probably going to be a size small , it will be 2 inches short and 1 inch big , but I don't think it will cause *too* much drag or sag too much.

    I'm just freaking out to be honest with you guys . I'm scared my size will be too big or something , that something will be wrong with the tail. But this is probably going to be the only chance I get at ordering a tail , and while I don't want to pass up the chance , I just feel scared.
    It's a big step forward for me , and I know Eric has quite the reputation for silicone tails , but what about his fabric tails?
    I'm so overloaded with questions and anxeity, so please bear with me >~<

    Oh how I hate being paranoid XD

    If in doubt, get the next size up. I learned from past mistakes that its easier to alter a big tail than it is a small tail.

    The fluke probably bubbles up because of the lack of openings in the bottom. Without openings the water and air has more trouble escaping the end of the tail. This could cause some drag since it will be harder for the water to exit the tail as you are swimming along. You can't always see the fluke bubbling. I was watching someone swim in a silicone tail and I didn't notice that their fluke was bubbling until the slow motion part of the video.

    Mermaid Jaffa ,
    I just went for a small. It might be a little big , but I have also been trying to gain weight lately , so in a way it's a good thing!

    Mermaid Alea ,
    Ah , thats what I thought. :/ But even if there is a drag , maybe I can alter it (like poke little holes in the fabric)

    Ah so I put in my order last night! I got a woman's Lorelei Green , although the Amber Isle were a close second!!
    It shipped out this morning and already it should be here by tommarow evening! XD
    I cannot contain my excitement!
    I would post pictures here , but I'm on mobile and have 0 idea how lol . But I will be on Facebook! :3 And maybe Instagram.

    Thank you all for voicing your opinions and helping me decide , I have a good feeling about this though.

    ALSO: I messaged Eric with a sizing question and he was extremely responsive! Normally he isn't? Idk. Maybe his customer service is improving.
