Can any mers help me with this. I already have a scale popping loose when it hasn't even been worn yet. It decided to pop in the worst place too, even though we were extremely careful with it. I'm super disappointed. https://instagram.com/p/BPsimvujLkY/

It was a bit too difficult to sew through the neoprene with a standard hand needle without it wanting to break on me. I had someone recommend the same e6000 glue to keep the string from running through the first scale. I'm just really disappointed that I haven't even performed in the tail yet and the quality is failing me.

This is disheartening... this seems to be a common trend in these tails... 😔

good idea with the glue. doesnt give you much faith the tail will hold up for long.

I've messaged the girls for a solution after talking to my mother about it. My mother was absolutely livid about it, considering I only just received it in the post yesterday and haven't worn it (because of surgery I had this week). I'm waiting for a response from them now. Glue definitely won't hold during my gigs this summer and for $800, I need a better solution.

Oh dear! You can either, tie a very good knot in the remaining ends of the thread/line to prevent the other scales from coming loose and then sew on the scale that just came off (I posted earlier on how I would do it), or, try and put the thread/line on a needle (you may have to remove or loosen a couple of more scales to do this) then tighten and sew the scales back on.

Good luck!!! May I ask, how did you find the sizing of your tail?

Thanks for the advice! I'll try my best to see what I can do till I get a response from FFP. I haven't been able to try this tail on since I received it yesterday because of a surgery I had earlier this week.

I would not glue it, but you can get a heavier duty needle..that should work. I was able to use that to sew through heavily painted neoprene...it wasnt easy, but I would use a plier to push and pull it through.

^^^^^^^^this. I would recommend an upholstery needle and thread. Double up on the thread if you want to be super duper safe. I've never had it break on me, and I'm rough on my neoprene tails.

Thank you so much mers! I seriously appreciate all the advice and help. I was so gutted about this happening today. I'll do my best and let you know how it ends up for me. I still haven't gotten a response from FFP.

Just be patient for the email, they did say in the panel that's one of the hardest things for them to answer in their small company, but they are working as best as they can to answer.

I was sent the wrong size, so have to send it back. They are not online very often, so it might take a little bit. PS..I am still waiting on my leggings exchange by the way..LOL...there were supposed to contact me via sizing before my tail shipped, I didnt hear from the though..and I wasnt expecting my leggings to be in the box, but I hoped...LOL

Mermaid Machhalee your video shows what I was kind of suspecting earlier on... So it looks like to make these tails quickly they are not doubling or tripling up on the thread that much. I personally have very limited sewing experience, but from what little I have sewn I have found that when I sew something down once or twice it will start to get lose and even come off much sooner. Like one swim and it will be loose. Once I learned to take the time to really sew something down tight with lots of stitching, I noticed that I had (so far) no problems. For example I sewed snaps in my fluke and I used thick thread and went through each hole on the snap multiple times and it has stayed secure. When you sew through say a scale multiple times it leaves room for error so if one stitch wasn't all that tight the next one will compensate, etc.

To make these tails quickly and keep costs down it works better to use less thread. Honestly though after seeing the small amount of thread holding that scale on I would be tempted to try and re-enforce every single scale with individual stitching.

I really like these tails and I know it has to be difficult to mass produce tails that need individually sewn on scales. I hope that the twins can figure out a way to make the scales stay on longer.

I can't believe you were sent the wrong mythic tail size!!!!!! Eeeeeeeep!!!! I ordered my mythic tail in a small too and I am just praying it fits--I just checked the tracking and it JUST left Los Angelos! Our trip is quickly approaching (tick tock tick tock).. I am also sorry to hear about your leggings and hope they arrive soon--mine arrived today, and I can't get over how good the quality is! I wanted to thank you so much for one of your previous posts alerting us to your dimensions and the leggings size that were too small; that is why I was able to gauge the size that would best fit me: I am 5'7, waist 28, hips 34 and the medium leggings fit me perfectly--no muffin-tops, woot woot :-) I also decided to get the "sweetheart shark dress" in medium and it fits like a tube dress; I was hoping to avoid a skin-tight feel as I wanted it for a bathing-suit cover. If someone my size wanted a skin-tight fit, a small in the dress would've worked too.

They are beautiful tails but I never understood why one would choose to use a straight stitch on stretchy fabric. Would have been more ideal to use a zigzag stitch. I see the scales have 2 holes each. Could've been done with V---V, into each hole. Or an additional V across the scale from each stitch hole.

    That is a fantastic idea!
