Thread: Super Shiny Metallic Pigments; What's a Good One?

Super Shiny Metallic Pigments; What's a Good One?

Posing the question here after searching the forum for info.
I saw the few threads on getting an iridescent shimmer with Pearl EX pigments (which I love for many uses), I've yet to try their golds.
A future silicone tail project has me searching for the most shiny metallic gold pigment that I can mix with silicone.
Hopefully without adverse effects on curing and stability, since I know some pigments don't play well with silicone.

I'd be panting the gold on in a few spots as a final touch; like gold leaf on some of the scales to catch the light.
How does the Pearl EX gold pigment do as a shiny metallic rather than a pearly shimmer?
Perhaps I could even use shiny gold leafing material (the fake gold) you can get at art supply stores; apply it on a small area and paint a thin layer of silicone on top of it?
I apologize ahead of time if there was advice on this I missed elsewhere.

    XOXO

Don't know how much use this is, but here is a video showing of some of the Pearl-ex pigments (gold included)

The goldleaf idea is something I've been thinking about to. With a clear coat maybe it could work?

Thanks Yulia! The brilliant gold looks pretty good. Might even be a good base for layering gold leaf on top of.

Their brilliant gold is awesome. Aztec gold is great, too and has a deeper gold color.

I tried gold leaf and it looks dull, even under a thin coat of silicone, plus, it shatters when stretched and since it is a thin sheet of metal, it will cause the silicone to separate and create a pocket. It can be a tearing issue, and if water gets in, it can sour and get moldy.
