I've been indexing all the types of gigs I've done in a variety of ways to share with you all. I hope it'll give you some ideas into things you can book yourself and help you draw inspiration.
I have done public speaking in a variety of places, on a variety of topics. If you're a mer really involved in the environment this may be a topic you could speak about to enviro related groups. You can also talk about the aspects of costuming to cosplay or con type groups, you can talk about the history of mermaiding to different high school and other groups, you can do a combination.
For me, for two years now I have spoken to university students who are pre-service teachers about teaching and thinking outside the box. I use my mermaid persona to explain how I do things, give them a brief lesson on being a mermaid, show examples of how I've been teaching, and let them see the tail. I do it all "in character". It's gained me a lot of attention.
Just a heads up, these were both done BEFORE I got my new tail. Next year when I do it I'll be in my new tail
